So its great that come tomorrow i should be able to pick an x2 5000 up for around 300 or 350, but a quick search of retailers show none in stock with any major names (newegg, zzf, monarch, etc.). Is there anywhere to get these anytime soon? The price cuts put this right into my price range and im wondering if ill be able to get one or if ill end up getting the 4600 (not that im complaining). hehe

PS first post!

hmmm, I'm pretty sure I had seen it before so I'm not sure why it's been pulled by the merchants. Jeez, Monarch and Mwave dont have any X2 stock, either the price cuts killed their inventory or they decided to pull their inventory 'till monday.

Will the 5000+ be available for socket 939, or is it socket AM2 only?

AM2 only, and the earliest ETA I see from AMD is 07/28/06.

I doubt many online retailers will have them before then, most buy some or all of their AMD from us.

Last time I saw in on Monarch, a note was attached about a global shortage. But now it's not even shown on the site (at least under AMD AM2 CPUs)

I've been looking at all of the retailer that I know; the 5000+ seems to be sold out just about everywhere.

Ok so i think ive decided on the 4600, it seems the 5000 will be 75 to 100 bucks more for little improvement, and handicapping my ddr 800. Also i think im goin for an asus m2n sli delux. It seems hard to find a good non sli board so i guess ill just get one with sli. Anyone have experience with that board? Ive heard many stories of boards not working with Vdimm over 1.95

Why would a 5000 handicap memory? Because of the multiplier? I was going to wait for the 5000+ but if I'm not going to see much of a difference over the 4600 I'll just order that instead.

If you want an Non SLI board try to find a board with the NForce 550 chipset.

The NForce 570 SLI is for SLI of course, with 2x PCI-E x8, NForce 590 is obviously Dual PCI-E x 16.

There arent as many quality boards with the 550 as they are usually budget boards, anyone know anything about the m2n-e? it has the 570 ultra so its not sli, but still retains some of the quality of a mid range board. Anyone know anything about that one?

Ah allright so your looking for motherboards based on the NForce 570 Ultra chipset.

Have you looked into the MSI K9N Platinum, one of the few other NForce 570 Ultra derived motherboards besides the ASUS M2N-E

Actually i was just about to ask about that one. Ive had a few MSI boards in the past and have liked them.

My only worries are in memory compatibility, which seems to be a big issue with many am2 boards

That sucks.

*irony on*
AMD could never make it for socket 939, oh no. That would not be possible..

I found some ocz ddr2 800 with timings of 5-5-5-10 that run on moderately low voltage (1.9) so that should be good.

The shortage is because The companies who sell the processors do not want to have processors that cost them 300 dollars selling for 150 so they have stopped ordering until AMD lowers the pricing on theirs to compete with intel so they dont take as big of a loss because once they all lower prices the 300 dollar ones they had in stock before are taking a huge loss.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

They simply aren't availble.

Actually, Maethor's is the most reasonable explanation I've seen for why these chips aren't currently available. Would you stock your inventory in June/July on an item that will cost you $600+ wholesale when you know the retail price is going to go to $300? That would be stupid.

The 5000's will be hitting the retailer's shelves within the next two weeks (mid-August).
