@OP: I was going to buy that when I saw it in the ad, but the reviews on Newegg seem 50/50. Many people have reported them to be DOA or stop working after a while.

It is tricky to find a 500 gig with firewire for a good price like that...

esata is equal to installing an internal drive, firewire 800 will give you good performance too but nothing will give the stability and performance of esata

That's good if it doesn't have a fan. It means the heat from the drive is transferring to the case where it will dissipate

eh, not sure about that. my seagate is much cooler and has no fan either. wheres the heat going? the drive in the acom atleast mine must have been much hotter to begin with. btw the seagate is plastic even!
