500gigs shown as 390gigs.

Doing the calculations, I should have ~465gigs, yet I have 390 (shown as 419,000,000,000 bytes). I've heard of not the entire drive space showing up, but don't know much about it.

Does anyone?

Yeah, my 500gb shows as 465, so your math is spot on. I guess it's something that has to do with Windows. Did you format it correctly, with ntfs ?

You may need to repartition it or even do a low-level format to rule out certain obvious possibilities. Hopefully nothing's physically wrong with it.

To check on how your partitions are set up (I'm assuming Win XP here):

Click on Start (Bottom left, of course) ... Control Panel ... Performance and Maintenance (In Category View) ... Administrative Tools ... Computer Management ... Storage ... Disk Management (Local).

In upper right pane it shows you all your HDD's. Pane below shows a graphical display of each drive's layout. If you have your 500 GB drive partitioned into two parts, or if it has only one partition smaller than the whole drive plus an unallocated space, that will show up here. Then you can decide if re-partitioning is what you want. Or, if there's unallocated space you want to use as a separate drive, you can use the tools here to create a second partition, then format it and it will be assigned a name ready for use.
