I purchased one of these for $4.99 about two weeks ago. Buy.com claims it shipped via FedEx, but the tracking number supplied hasn't worked since I received the email a few days after purchase. I probably was jacked for $4.99, but whatever, just a heads up to anyone considering this.

EDIT: After placing my order 8-18-07 I received my package today 9-1-07 in working condition.

I've had issues with a couple of online retailers giving broken tracking numbers. I always get what I order though.

Pretty good deal for $5. Even though I already have a Zune and every piece of my electronics including the vacuum and the desklamp plays MP3's it's nice to have another MP3 player that plays MP3's.

I ordered 3 of these and all of them look and function as new. The included earphones are big and very uncomfortable, but for this price and free shipping I can't complain at all. Works perfectly with my AAA rechargeable batteries. Ordered some cheap Sony earbuds with excellent review from newegg.com. Hope this will improve the sound and comfort. Thanks OP!

purchased two of these units ... one came functional ... the other thinks that the USB cable is permanently plugged in ...

Nothing changes it's status ... I e-mailed Buy.com about it and they said it is a refurb ... so too bad so sad ...

All in all though the one that works do so great!

wait, so since it's refurb, you're out of luck? i thought refurbs have the same warranty or at least 30 days? otherwise they can just sell broken stuff at $5-10 and get away with it?

Just got mine in and immediately popped some Motley Crue SHOUT AT THE DEVIL! It sounds great. FM Tuner works and so does the voice recorder.
