Alright, well I could always use a good opinion about hardware, and this is (of course) the best place. So anyways, which will run faster - 512 MB RAM @ 133 MHz or 640 MB @ 100 MHz? I have the option of either.. so I'm just curious.

It depends.

128MB of ram running at 133MHz would run faster than 1GB ram at 100MHz until you run out of space.

Here are some question to think about.

1) what OS am I running and does it actually take advantage of extra ram?
2) what speed am I planning on running the memory at?

i think the 640Mb@100mhz will run more faster, as we know the different between pc133 and pc100 just a small margin

The only circumstances it would matter under would be if you were running a 100 MHz CPU on a motherboard that allowed the memory to run at 133 while leaving the processor at 100.

Other than that your memory will run at your FSB speed, leaving the question pointless.

What do you do that needs 640MB of RAM?

Hell what do you do that needs 512MB of RAM (I personally do nothing, but have that much anyways because it's cheap)...

I would definately go with the 512MB PC133 unless you are doing intense photoshop type stuffs...

Go PC133! Unless you do HUGE video or picture editing, you will not tell the diff in ram between 528 and 768. But pc100 to pc133 is a pretty huge jump in speed.

512MB @ 133 is a better choice then 640 @ 100 in pretty much anything, there might be one or 2 exceptions but I cant think of them.
