this really irritates me. i live in san francisco, which has major financial problems. every year they publish the salaries of city workers and there are always a bunch of cops and city administrators making hundreds of thousands of dollars, and that doesnt even include benefits. they achieve this by working overtime mostly. this year one cop made $516000, another made 425000, a couple made 350000 and a bunch made in the 200000's. that is a total rip off to taxpayers. if you ask me, no cop anywhere should be allowed to make more than 70000. if you need more cops, hire them, but dont let them rape the taxpayer with overtime. that job just doesnt require the brains or education to deserve hundreds of thousands in pay under any circumstances.

In Portland that would be 11.46 second year police officers. TBH if you are in a police state such as the entire U.S., it would be much more powerful having 11 cops rather than one killing us on overtime.

i didnt say fire the cops, i said pay them a fair wage, but dont let them loot the city coffers. you could certainly have law enforcement without paying any cops more than 70000. if there are dopes making 500000 being cops that tells me things are out of control. someone isnt protecting the taxpayer

one second thought maybe you could not respond to bank robberies one week out of the month and instead lower police salaries from 500000 to 70000. that would be more cost effective

no this is really how i feel about this. the city is trying to reduce services and reduce hours and lay off a bunch of workers just trying to make ends meet and there are cops reaming the taxpayer with crap like this, year after year. and the cops in this city misbehave a lot, getting the city involved in expensive lawsuits. we even had one cop who, when off duty, would cover his license plate with a towel and drive around the city dragging girls into his truck, trying to rape them, but i guess thats ok since they "risk their lives and get shot at"
