Hrmm, I can't seem to find the processor anywhere on the website. Only an OEM one, but that's like $170

Saw this posted on FW, confirming the low prices on these Opterons.

Now...what are the limitations?

Registered ram? Special mobo's? Really interested, but clueless about Opteron processors.

None of that stuff needed for that particular processor. Just a decent socket 939 motherboard and whatever RAM you'd like.

are you serious? no registered dimms for a server chip? and no special mobo's required?

slap me silly and call me Osama... I've got to read up on this baby. Quick question, how does this compare with a A64 3400 2.2 ghz chip? Higher overclocking overhead? Of course, there's the much higher L2 cache, but beyond that. Anyone?

The socke 939 Opteron chip will work in any Socket 939 board, with any DDR sticks.
There are NO special requirements.
The only difference between the Opteron and other socket 939 chips is a bigger L2 cache (and higher overclocks)

That's it, just the pick of the silicon sheet over it's brother Athlon 64's, which means inherently higher OC potential . . . and they give it that bigger L2 cache. Wonderful deal if it's for real.
