5400rpm or 7200rpm in a laptop

Hey guys, so is 7200rpm worth it in a hard drive over 5400rpm for a laptop? I mean it's obviously gonna be faster but is it worth it?

If so what model should I look for? I've seen hitachi travelstar and seagate momentous.

Also, is there an adaptor for sata-pata drives? I don't know which one my e1505 uses.

I've used Hitachi 7k60s for my digital video editing in the field, off my Dell 600M. The 7200RPM and 8MB cache is the only way to go.

I have three 7k60s. 1 main, 1 media drive enclosure and 1 external USB. My last one was off eBay for $68 shipped.

No room in a laptop for adapters. You have to get the right drive. SYSINFO should tell you what you have - so should your machine's specs and user manual.

How much noisier is a 7200 compared to a 5400? I've heard the 7k Fujitsu's are pretty noisy w/o the acoustic management on (why they don't just enable it in the first place is beyond me). I want to install a new HD into my mac mini, but don't want any noise coming out of it.

Noise is not really a problem - but, the 7200 does run a bit hotter. I find the laptop HDD sweetspot today to be the Seagate 160 GB PRT 5400 - it is fast, quiet, and spacious. A 200 GB is coming soon.
