Hey guys, I've been doing alot of reading on the forums here but this is my first post

I'm going to be starting a new build soon and I need a bit of advice/guidance on what PSU I choose. The one I'm looking at is the 550w Coolermaster GX at around £50 inc postage (about $80 Dollars).

I'm sure this will meet my voltage requirements but I would like to know how this PSU ranks in terms of build quality, so if anyone who has used it or has used a similar Coolermaster product could tell about their experience with it I would be grateful.

Build Specs just in case:
Intel i5 2400
ATI HD 6870
Zalman Z9 Plus Case
500GB Western Digital HDD
ASUS P8Z68-V motherboard
Corsair H60 Cooler
8GB DDR3 1600Mhz Corsair Vengeance

*These parts may change but that's what I'm looking at currently.

I realise that most people using this forum are in the US and so will work in $ but just to say that in Britain components are usually a bit more expensive and I'm on a fairly tight budget so don't really want to break the £60 mark for a PSU

Thanks for your help in advance.

Curious as to why you're buying a Z68 board for i5-2400. With a H67 board you could afford a much more powerful graphisc card. Or you could buy i5-2500K and overclock it on the Z68 board. (Plus you can find cheaper Z68 boards than P8Z68-V...)

From Aria.co.uk I would pick XFX 650W

I was originally going to go for the i5 2500k and so I chose the board to go with that but after deciding to go for the 2400 I suppose I could change to an H67, thanks for the feedback.

If you're going for a Core i5 2400 + H67 combo, drop the Corsair H60 and go for a cheaper air cooler like the CM Hyper212 Evo. You'll probably see a reduction in temps and noise levels that are almost similar to the H60 although a stock cooler is sufficient for a non overclockable CPU.

You might want to switch the Vengeance kits for something cheaper as well since it would not give a substantial improvement for your setup. Try finding some ValueRAMs, DDR3-1333 or DDR3-1600 doesn't matter, at least for a mid range non OC rig.

A Seasonic or Corsair 380 will give you more power than a GX650 from Coolermaster. If you only want to buy Cooler Master, then only go for their gold rated power supplies and worst comes worst nothing short of Silent Pro M or Silent Pro Gold, other PSUs from cooler master are junk, but the above mentioned ones are reasonably good.

The reason I'm going for the H60 is that I don't want the huge heatsink block from a fan cpu cooler in my pc, call me crazy I'm also thinking about the aspect of keeping things quiet, the fan in the corsair is reported to be fairly quiet and along with the fact that its much easier to keep clean than traditional fan coolers its ideal for what I want. It also gives me scope in the future to do some cpu overclocking if/when I upgrade in a couple of years time.
