The X5M supposed to be pretty impressive drivers car as well...
My BIL had one for a couple of years and the engine is ridiculous. But you'd have to get one that's several years old or a lot of miles for a $55K budget. They're double that price when new.

Thanks.

Audi's site isn't very clear in that there were differences in the 3.0 engines. Went to Google and now I have the HP numbers for the 3 options. I'm going to look at the Q5/Q7 either this weekend or sometime next week. I already talked to my wife's mom about taking our son for a couple of days so we can hit the Porsche/Jag/Volvo/Mercedes dealer in one day.

Went to the Audi dealer and checked out the Q5/Q7. The Q5 is just too small. Going back over my list and looking at cargo room and overall cabin volume, the only car I'm going to test drive from my original selection is the Fpace. It's slightly larger than the q5/glc/macan. Guess I'm going to have to step up to the next class which is blah because they start to creep outside of my budget with the features I want.

It might do you some justice to check out a more plebian option or two as well, something like the Ford Edge or Explorer.... optioned out, they likely would still stay within your budget, and offer a lot of room. Won't be as nice of an interior compared to Volvo, Jag, or Porsche, but, a shitton better than the old ratty explorers of the past.

You can get a CPO LX570 in that price range...while not exactly a crossover, they're really nice.

That's why I went with the Volvo XC60. Had more cargo space than what you've listed but wasn't a full size.

I sometimes check the price on nice cars I see and I'm always like "THAT car costs WHAT!?"

Verdict is in

Going with the F Pace. The extra 4-6cuft of room is enough and it was the most fun when compared to the q7 and xc90. Was going to custom order but the wait time is more than I thought so I'm just going to find something in inventory.

Nice! Need pictures when you get it!

Not impressed overall or with something in particular? I also assume you're talking about the new version? Performance wise the AMG version adds over 100hp.

In regards to the Porsche, I did look at it but I feel like they're trying lure you in with a false price. You get almost nothing for the base price. I'm even surprised they give you wheels and tires with the car considering how they option every damn thing possible. I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll probably see the windshield as an option.

I looked at Macan's this weekend (for my wife) and I was unimpressed. They had a nice demo-model Macan in the showroom at $98K USED, but the cheapest ones on the lot were $62K with pretty much the same 2.0L 4-cylinder as a $25K VW GTI (with a very mild ECU tune). The only options on the $62K models were the Bose stereo package and some rather expensive wheels. It always shocks me how minor features like keyless entry and CarPlay require >$5000 in option packages in luxury vehicles.

The dealer here does the same thing. A bunch of base model Macan optioned to 60-65k and then 70+ for S. When I built one on their website I was able to get an S with most of what I wanted for 62k.

I'm looking at an F Pace right now snickered at 61.5k and I think I can get the dealer to go down to about 60k. It's 35t R Sport model with tech package, hud and hitch. The R sport comes with the better seats, vision package, some of the driver assist items and a few other small things. It's way better than what I could have gotten on the Porsche.

Well, it looks like if I want an Fpace I'm going to have to order one up and wait till around late January before it's delivered. Inventory in my surrounding area is non-existence in the trim I want and apparently Jag populates their inventory system with people's orders. So all of these options I thought I had don't exist and are really people's orders showing up at the dealer.

Thinking about testing an AMG GLC43 even though it has less space. If I have to wait and order an Fpace then I'll go with S model in white with tech package, hitch and heated windshield for 63k.

That's pretty quick for custom ordering a car actually. I did so and it took more like 4ish months. But yes you'll see those vehicles populate on the websites, probably not with pictures. Occasionally you get lucky and someone backs out. My guess is with this vehicle being so new they just don't have inventory stocks built up yet and are probably selling everyone that comes in.

Well, F Pace it is.

Tested an AMG and really liked it. Space was an issue but said what the hell when I spotted one that had what I wanted that was actually in my price range. The one I tested was optioned to high. Got all excited and got some numbers from the dealer where I found out the residual was just terrible on it compared to the Jag. So, built the white S model mentioned above and sent the .pdf to the dealer to order one. Now for the 3 month wait.

Congrats on the purchase, too bad for the wait though. I had to wait 5 months when I ordered my Mustang. I hope your 3 month wait goes quickly.

Yet Porsche rates very highly for reliability and VW rates absolute shit. I'd never own a VW. My wife owned one and it was complete garbage.

I know this is an old post but the reason Porsche rates high is because JD Powers doesn't normalize for mileage and more Porsches tend to be weekend/second cars. There's also a tendency for german cars to be alright <100k and then start falling apart, so crossing some threshold is meaningful. Their cars share the same designs as the audi/vw group and use similar assembly systems so there's no real reason for one to be superior to the other.

So, the takeaway from this is don't buy a Porsche either. Got it.

I think generally speaking their sports cars, esp higher end, are comparatively reliable for that category of "near exotics". Eg the 911 as regular/daily driver is reasonably obtainable/maintainable for folks who still work for their money.

This is my son's. He ordered last April and got it end of Sept. So far he seems supremely happy.
