as for the price of the 5600U rev2... I would buy this before a 5600rev2. At least it will have good support for ps2.0...

as for the nordic article
So for this review we're stuck with UT2003 benchmarks and apparently there's been some "optimizations" going on in the drivers again. UT2003 is affected and we're told that the FX boards simply do not provide true trilinear filtering in all cases. This is unfortunate, not only for the users, but also for me as it puts me in a bad spot.

That is just a plain lie. There is no proof that ati is cheating in its drivers from 3.6 and on, wheras nvidia just keeps trudging along with trileneir disabled in the drivers... I love it when video card makers have to remove features to increase score. nvidia has done this now at least twice. first with the displacement mapping and now with filtering.. They got wise to the game.exe trick where you just change the game executible now it is off for everything and the drivercode is now encrypted so tweakers can't turn it back on... GO NVIDIA!....

I hope they turn this around at least ATI realised there mistake and removed it.

A one-game "roundup?" That's even worse than THG's 2.5 game "roundup." Surely you know of more comprehensive reviews to link than that, rickn. Try this or this, for starters.

hey, I said it was a roundup, I didn't say it was a GREAT roundup. It is pathetic. It's all I had at the moment

To me it's simple: 5600 Ultra Rev2 smokes a cripled-ass 9600 Pro, period. EVERY review I've read confirms this. In fact the 5600 Ultra Rev2 will beat ANY GF4 TI even in almost every test. HOWEVER, screw those cards when for $50 more you can have a full-fledged 9800 for $237 on Pricewatch (8 pipeline, non-SE). If you people (true enthusiasts, I might add) have this much energy to argue over midrange cards, save up a few more bucks and get a REAL gamers card! I am no fan-boy of either company, but for your money you just can't argue with a 9800 non-pro!

Not that it truly matters as it is give and take but 9600PRO easily beats the original 5600ultra and I don't think the 5600ultra V2 flipchip is in the lead often enough or even by enough to say it's truly faster. The other big problems with going for a 5600ultra is firstly not easily being guaranteed of a V2 flipchip and secondly you're often paying far more than a 9600PRO costs and often as much as a Rad9700nonPRO which easily smokes all these cards and comes in VERY close to Rad9700PRO/9800nonPRO speeds with a little o/c'ing. Any hard info on those 9800SE yet?
