560GTX ti overkill?

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU. I had a 9800gtx+ but it melted. I have listed my current specs below. I am looking at a Nvidia 560gtx ti[ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130610 ]

Would the 560gtx ti be overkill?

IMO the GTX 460 is a better value, however, things are changing. The deals aren't as good on the 460s anymore, and the 560s are decreasing in price.

You'll probably do ok with one of those cards, but a new CPU would let you properly take advantage of them.

1600x1200 is my main monitor, but it's dying slowing. I'll probably buy a 1900x1080 monitor in the next month. I run dual monitors the second monitor is 1280x1024.

but yeah Baroo, you should list your res because that one of the most important factors in video card decisions.

EDIT: I should have waited like one more minute, lol. if you are seriously going to upgrade your monitor to 1920x1080 very soon then the gtx560 would not be a terrible decision. getting a gtx460 and just overclocking it would be a better option with your cpu though. I would get an aftermarket cooler and oc that cpu to 3.6 though even with the gtx460 and absolutely so with the gtx560.

thanks! I use to have my CPU overclocked, however my motherboard has an external button to reset my bios. After it got hit a couple times by the cleaning lady, and a few more times by my twins I gave up and run at default speeds now.

You can save a profile inside the BIOS and you just have to load the profile anytime you want.

If you going to get a new 1080p monitor then get the 560.

a gtx460 makes more sense at 1600x1200 since even at 1920x1080 the gtx560 would be held back a bit in most games. his cpu is much more than an 8% bottleneck with a gtx560 anyway so he would get the same performance at 1600x1200 as he would at 1920x1080 in nearly every case.

personally I would get a gtx460, oc it and then oc my cpu a little. that would be a decent setup for 1600x1200 and would handle 1920x1080 just fine too. a gtx560 would certainly help in a game like Metro2033 or Just Cause 2 but there are also many games that will see little to no difference between a gtx460 or gtx560 if both cards are oced.

either way has its pros or cons so if money is not a concern and he will be getting a 1920x1080 very soon then a gtx560 is not a stupid choice by any means. just don't expect to see the same performance in every game that you see in gtx560 reviews.

You see, this is why I do not drive a Toyota. While they are practical, they are boring and do not see the "big picture".

I was making two completely separate points so I used two posts. The first one was on a bit of a tangent, making a recommendation that was not on the OP's list of options. :hmm:

I ordered the 560gtx ti. it was 229$ after Mail in rebate.

The reason being is that after going over everything last night in my machine, I'm probably going to get a new motherboard/CPU/ram in a few months. thanks for everyones help.

I'm glad you went with the GTX 560ti. You're better off gaming at 1080p. If you guys want to get all technical. It might be 8% more than 16x12, but 1080p in actual viewing is like night and day. But argue it all you want.
