m running an XP2000 on a MSI KT4V motherboard and I am using an older (expensive) fan which only runs at 5000rpm...my CPU temperature is 54-55degrees. My question is, is this a safe temperature? I will never overclock or nething else like that..

cheers

Is that under full load? With stock or similar cooling, that temperature may rise considerably under load. Are you having any problems with stability, etc., during load?

Don't worry, it's winter here and my athlon XP 1700 is running at 62C...

Under heavy load it's usually a little higher... I've had my pc for a long time and it's stable as heck and has no problems... I wouldn't worry!

Yes, as long as it's stable, then it's fine. Changing hsfs for lower temps is fine, but it's really a waste unless you are ocing. On the other hand, you often have to change hsfs if you are trying to lower noise.

Now the question is, can you name the eps which the quotes come from

My processor runs 64C under load, 1800+

The only problem I've had involved short circuiting the 12V and 5V lines modding a fan.... oops!

The bright side is I'm running it with a cheap aluminum hs, some crappy thermal pad that was on it, and a Vantec Stealth 80mm fan with a 60mm to 80mm converter, and its real quiet the converter and the fan knocked me up 5 degrees C but at least I can't hear it doing it But I hope the 7 volted fan will up my air flow and get it running cooler.

60mm to 80mm converter does a horrible job. You should get yourself a bigger heatsink that uses 80mm fan and ac3.
