56k and wireless???

I have only 56K internect connection.

I was wondering whether it is possible to use my laptop to have wireless access to internet. Is this possible?

If possible could you guys let me know what are the hardwares I need and from where I can buy them.

I have 802.11b netgear wireless router and gigafast wireleass pcmcia adapter. I guess I could use them if i had hi-speed connection. Can I somehow use them for 56K connection too?

Probably these are all dumb question but what more a dummy in computer can do!

You're going to need a computer to act as a gateway, in other words to dial the connection and to share the internet connection over the LAN, and to plug into the router (not the WAN port, its not a modem, just a PC). This is the same way you'd share a broadband connection if you had a modem that didn't plug directly into your router.

If you have XP/2k it's very easy, all you have to do is share the connection, works perfectly.

The only downside to this is that the computer must always be on for the internet to be accessible, and it will usually have to act as the DHCP server instead of your router if you want that on your network.

I do this with my 56k, it's just like being on a broadband connection on the networked PCs, it's just very slow But no dialing when you bootup and such is a plus.

Another way to do this ...I have a USR8022 router....it allows you to use an external serial modem.....that way I don't have to have my computer on while everyone else can still use the internet....works slick...I have 2 computers on wireless...and 3 hard wired....and only have dialup in my area....this router also has a printer port too...but haven't tried that part yet....when you turn on a computer the router dials up the internet....
