5770: When do you expect the next price drop?

They're still a tad high for me, and I never count rebates into the final cost until I've cashed the check.

Are there any new lines being released soon, and/or does anyone expect a price drop in the field very soon?

If not, then I may as well go ahead and grab one, but I'd love to save $10/$20 if it wouldn't be too much longer.

Very soon. ATI's 6XXX series is out soon.

You may want to wait on the 6770. Will likely be at the same price point as the 5770 and faster than the other midrange cards out there like the 460.

That said if you just want to save some extra dough, once the new ATI cards are out, should be that everything currently on the market will take a price cut, nvidia or ati.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

When do I expect a price drop?

How about today: one-day coupon code (24HRSALE91D) brings the HD5770 to $112 after rebate (or $127 before rebate, if you're worried about that.

Unfortunately I couldn't get to this until I got off work, and it was sold out at that point, but that's alright. Thanks for posting it!

I'm guessing that was a shell shocker.....?....as I didn't see it listed in my Newegg email.

I'll probably just end up waiting a month or so until the next major price drop. Buying one now would kind of put me in a bind anyway.

Look for the new gts450 card in about 2 weeks and some price drops with the 5770 right after.
Then again it may never drop, just like most ATI cards except the 5830.

yeah, we're starting to see deals on the "just good enough" cards like 5830/5770/gtx 460 - 768mb. looks like they're making room for gtx 460 1gb, 5850, and 6770 to release/drop in price.

btw, don't expect 6770 to release under $200. if it has even similar performance to 5850 it will be more expensive bc, you know, 6770 is a bigger number than 5850.

I think the next 16 months are gonna be pretty interesting. you have to look beyond discrete and look at what AMD/ATI is planning on putting up against intel nvidia etc and the looming GCPU war.

its gonna get downright interesting to see who wins this round of architecture battles.

I'll stand on the sidelines and see who kicks the most ass but I still ain't taking a side. They all make a good product on some leve.

well except for microsoft but thats a whole other debate.

the only thing competitive nvidia has is the 460 1gb, its entire line aside from that card can't rival amd. so if amd releases a card that bests it & is cheaper, then its game over once again for nvidia.

Really? Most of the benches put a GTX480 faster than a 5870. Most of the benches put a GTX470 on par for the most part with a 5870, let alone a 5850. The GTX460 and 465 are both significantly faster than the 5770, and on par or faster than the 5830 for the most part.

I'm not a nvidia fan in terms of business, but I'll be the first to admit when team green has a faster product on the shelf.

Fermi definitely has the speed edge, but they're significantly hotter and more power hungry, and have only recently started competing for value with improved drivers and 'effective' price cuts (MSRP is the same, but lots of deals).

The cards I think ATi are lagging with are the 5850 and 5870; with the introduction of the 460 and the maturation of the 470, the 5850 and 5870 are now overpriced in comparison. The 5830 and 465 are not and have never been worth purchasing imo, terribly inefficient, and the 5770 (as long as you don't go paying full MSRP) is still a great choice for 1680x1050 and anything lower and I don't see the 450 changing that much aside from perhaps forcing the 5770 down a bit to maintain it's value position.

@darkewaffle: While the 5850/5870 does not look as attractive today with the GTX460 out and it's awesome overclocking potential, I doubt anyone who bought either card while NV had no competing DX11 GPU out regrets their purchase. Depending on price, either card are still very viable buys.

I think an argument could be made that the 5850 at $260 is pretty good value.
If you get one with voltage control, then you should be easily able to crack 900Mhz core, and that's comfortably knocking on the door of a 5870...

i thought it went without saying that the power requirements, noise, and heat would negate any speed comparisons, but i guess not. if u had 2 cards at the same speed, but one ran hotter, noisier, took more power, & had less mature drivers, which would u buy? that's right, its a no-brainer.

u gotta look at the whole picture. My $8000 Yamaha R6 motorcycle is faster in city streets than a $300, 000 Ferrari, it can run circles around it actually, but speed is NOT everything here.

There's this card called the 5970. You forgot that one. Now, which nVidia card is faster than it?

There is no guarantee there will be a price drop, even with HD6000 looming. A price cut is made so that there will be no stock of dated parts when the new series arrive (or if the product isn't competetive enough), if there is no major stock on Juniper, there will be no price cut. Vendors will sell at the highest possible price, so unless there are a hundred thousand or so cards collecting dust, prices will remain the same, or slightly adjusted.

I think nVidia hit the sweet spot with the GTX 460 1GB. I bought 2 of 'em for SLI. They are so powerful that my E8400 overclocked to 4GHz badly bogs them down. It's time for a Core I7 920, I think.
