Wow that was quick.
The 6850 Sapphire is also a good deal with the 25$ tho. comes up to 135$ after rebates and you also get shogun which you can sell for even better deal.

I would pay the 30usd more for a 6870. Wouldn't touch that 5850 nor its partner in crime the 5870 with a 20ft barge pole. Too many problems reported with those cards and they run like space heaters

If you are running dual monitors, you might also want to look into the power consumption of both cards at idle when running 2 monitors. They could be different. Just a tip.

Glad you agree that idle power consumption matters most, if you leave a PC on 24/7 or otherwise don't game with it as much as you use it in 2D desktop mode.

what nonsense? 5000 series getting cut down in prices. 5870 going for almost under 200. Wonder why. Do some research about user experience about the 5xx series cards you will See. I always do that when before buying a card. Reviews shows cherry picked cards performances user experiences tells you what happen in the real world.

Again, more unsubstantiated FUD. We are supposed to accept what you say is true, simply because you say so. The 5850 was a fantastic card for it's generation. They managed to sell above suggested retail price most of the time. Now, they are closing out the remaining chips at great perf/$ pricing.

As far as others doing research, didn't you learn anything the last time you suggested that? All you have to do is exchange nVidia for ATI. Or, 400 for 5000 and you'll see just as many issues for both. If there was ever a generation that ATI dominated, it was with the 5000 series. nVidia's one shining jewel was the 460.

It's a toss up. Both perfect for 1080p single monitor gaming.

5850 is slightly faster, in some games by 10%, but...

Uses up to 20% more power, especially when both overclocked
Requires two PCI-E connectors. Can be a factor during crossfire
Generally noisier under load
Sightly worse at Tesselation (newer games)
Lacks the Anisotropic filtering fix
6850 is better for Crossfire setups
Lacks a few minor newer features

However, it is going for CHEAPER than 6850's at the moment, I'd be seriously tempted as it's an awesome card. For the same price, I'd get the 6850 as there is no noticable difference accept benchmarks at 1080p whilst gaming, so why not save a few watts and get a few newer features.

Personally though, I'd push a little more cash and opt for the 5870 as they aren't much more at the moment and that thing is a beast.
