I looked but couldn't find a good review for this power supply, I'm replacing my 3500+ @ 2750 with X2 4200+ @ 2750 (Hopefully ) after the price cuts and also upgrading to 2x1GB Ram. I'm sure my Coolermaster 430W (400W Continous) won't be able to handle my system, would this be sufficient. With so many planned upgrades I'm kinda short on the cash for an Antec or similarly priced power supply.

EDIT: Hey Kasia00 what are the specs of the system you are running on this power supply.

Be VERY AWARE of what's on the label. If a power supply lists all of the rails and what amperage each rail is capable of doing.. what does that really tell you? You WANT TO KNOW combined wattages. If you have two 12V rails and each one does 16A, what good does that do you if you don't know what the COMBINED capability of those two rails is? What if the power supply can only put out 240W on the combined 12V rails?!?!

Spend some time reading about how power supplies fudge about their outputs and some impartial testing.

And before anyone says you can easily figure out wattage output from the amperage listed, you CAN'T!

Take a few Seasonic power supplies.................I figure tehy're a tad bit better than this one.

The SS-600HT and the SS-500HT, both SLI-certified power supplies. The former is a 600 watt, the a latter a 500 watt unit.

The 600 has +12V rails of 18A and 18A and a combined output in wattage on the +12V rails of 432W.

The 500 has +12V rails of 17A and 16A and a combined output in wattage on the +12V rails of..............432W.

Same output from different amperages on the rails.

Take a look at Seasonic's 12V amperage listings on their ATX power supplies and the combined wattage outputs....might surprise you. And I'd TRUST Seasonic's ratings.

So, just listing amperage per rail says absolutely NOTHING about the capabilities of the pwer supply.....and in fact would seem to me to be less than honest.

I ordered 2, hard forums give HEC high praise as server grade manufacturer and they say it can handle whatever you throw at it. i've always been lucky with psu's anyways.

Well all I know is that they make good PSU's. From low budget PSU to HIGH end psu's like their ACE & WIN series

585w PSU for $19?

Is that like a "500 watt speaker" that runs of AA batteries?

I bought this about 3 months ago for my server/lan game box still running strong....

running:
amd 3800x2 @ 2.4ghz
2x250gb maxtor/west digital
2 nec3250? dvd burners
nvid6600 agp 400/580
2 monitoring webcams
2x1gb usb keys (my generic form of important document redundancy)

all running 24x7

It does feel quite light as compared to my other TT psu's... be that as it may... it works.

In for one although I didn't go through mwave. I went through directron instead.

http://www.directron.com/hp585d.html

It's only 5 dollars more but I was a little wary of mwave because they call it by two different model numbers in the title, with and without the R at the end. Also, the specs on directron more closely resemble the manufacturers website. Even better, there was no tax to my zip code

Sure are. I'd like to buy only seasonic for $20. Oh, wait, I can't get any for $20, can I?

The point is that if you need a cheap psu, the HEC orion series are definately contenders. As are the inexpensive fortron and ttgi models. PSU specs are such absolute BS it's almost impossible to look at the supplied info and derrive anything useful. For example, without knowing the WEIGHT of the psu how do you tell if it's a toy no matter what the printed label says? What is the value of an output that can be sustained for less than 1 second?

To me, if it weighs more than 3.5 pounds, is from a reputable company (whose relationship of actual performace to "label" performance is well known and consistent,) and has +12v rating near 20amps (let alone quoting appropriate combined rails)

I'm pretty grateful to hear about it for $20.

So, thanks OP...

HEC is pretty popular and reputable among my friends from Europe. I don't know if they produce the same kind of stuff here but I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one for $20(!).

It weighs 3 pounds 2 ounces. I posted some specs on it and some pics here. You have to be a member and logged in to see pics, IIRC. It's not bad for $20 - I bought two of them at that price the last time Mwave had a sale. They are NOT very quiet. Not exactly noisy, but not quiet. Not that terrible for $20 - can't say there are any other $20 PSUs that I'd use. However, there's a PSU that's about $7 more which I'd trust more and that's the Enhance ATX-1136FA from Ewiz. Weighs 12 ounces more and is "only" 360W, but it has a real 6 pin PCI-E instead of an adaptor like the HEC.

Directron has it for slightly more: HP585

Oh and weight is not really how you should be judging power supplies. Most of the weight is from heatsinks and cables. This unit does not have massive heatsinks (about the same size as Seasonic's heatsinks, not massive like Topower's), and the cables are few and short, hence the low weight.

The only way is to just test it. From my experience, it delivered very solid voltages but did not move much air to cool the case.

Thats almost too cheap to be true. Will anyone trust their 1200 dollar Core 2 system on this PSU? If the PSU fails, it can cause a power surge and kill your hardware. I was using a 450 OCZ piece of crap a while back and my system kept turning off during gaming. Then my video card died. Voltages on OCZ were low too. Brand doesnt mean much as manufacture.

I bought 5 of these for my gaming systems(lan party!!) 4 of them worked flawlessly and on the fifth one, I messed up and bent one of the floppy drive pins and it and shoved the thing on. SMOKE!!! the power supply got fried as well as the floppy, but all my other stuff, motherboard, memory and cpu etc work fine after installing another PS. Not the PS's fault.. total user error, but I was glad to see that the PS protected the other devices in the computer. The other four have been going strong for a month.

I don't get it...$20 for a PSU I would not evel sell to a customer...Or $40 for a PSU I would use/sell to a customer...

But if you get lucky and get a $20 PSU that lasts, and doesn't burn your system up, more power to you.

that's a really cheap psu...although it is not worth of a gamble to power up an UBER system. Unless you have a 5 yr old pc with very lil power requirements. I guess this would be fine.
