Sad, the prices are going up to $299 and $399. AMD made a statement and BSN posted an article. That newegg email was for the $259 ASUS 5850, probably the last time we see that price until gtx380 is out and about.

I hate newegg so

Yeah, it sold out so quickly, I have a friend waiting for one to come in stock. I'm starting to think that it will be after Christmas before it will be in stock consistently.

I put mine in over the weekend. I just downloaded the Windows 7 ISO from the student deal so that I can finally go DX10/11 since I've been on XP.

Here's something to make you jealous :
My new ATI 5850 and the nvidia 8800GTS 640mb that it replaced.

I was worried that the 5850 wouldn't fit since its shroud is much longer and could potentially get in the way of my hard drive cage. Fortunately, it ended up fitting but there was <1cm of clearance.

Such a paper launch. Never any stock anywhere. How long have these been out? 5-6 weeks, sheez!

[self censoring] ... a paper launch is where people don't have product in their hands 0-2 days after the NDA lift...

@ratbert1

I don't think this is a paper launch. Video game consoles are paper launched. I'd differ with plonk420 by saying that if it's out without insanely scarce availability within two weeks, it's not a paper launch.

What's funny is how much this argument gets thrown around since both ATI and nVidia have technically paper launched products in the past. Both have also participated in what I call a "trickle launch" where they know they won't have much stock but save up a batch for launch and then trickle supplies out every few days to various retailers and etailers in the world. If you're quick on the draw and patient in your searching, you'll score one eventually.

As for the availability of the 5xx0 series, I think it's just a combination of high demand (it is a new product with new features) along with low availability since TSMC is once again having production issues.

Hi,

Just bought one in Winnipeg store: Computer 360, in stock @ $329

I also contacted MysteryByte Computers in Nova Scotia and they have both in stock. Here is a reply from them:

SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON HD5850 PCI-E 1G DDR5 a few in stock $316
Sapphire HD5870 1GB DDR5 1 left $449

Regards,

Sean

This is really frustrating as I've got a dead 5870 that I picked up from fry's, but can't get it replaced. And even if I get a refund I can't get it anywhere. I can't even get a 5850.

I've already sold my 4870 so I'm SOL...

What's worse is that I've got an eyefinity setup matching 3x24" including the pricey DP to DVI adapter ...so my only option is the 5770.

$439 not worth it and "Available for Pre-Order. ". I went to Frys today and they did not have either card. Sticking with 280 for now.

Unless you got money to burn, I don't think going from a GTX280 to HD5870 is worth it. Sure, the ATi card is faster, but the GTX280 is fast enough for everything and then some. But maybe it's just me

Unless you're running a 30" 2560x1600 screen of course - can't get a card that's too fast for that resolution
