$315.99 wow. I laugh at suckers who pay over $50 MSRP.

Why? Try to hold the judgment, please. Maybe I just paid $50 for a new game, and want to play it at decent framerates so I need a new card. And I want to play the game now, not 3 or 4 weeks from now when prices might come down. If the game was worth $50 to me, then $50 over MSRP for a video card that allows me to play the game might be worth it to me too. It's simple supply and demand. Wanting something now and being willing to pay a premium for it does not make you a sucker. Premiums like that are everywhere, and we all make those sorts of decisions every day.

For example, here are some other statements as asinine as yours:

"I laugh at suckers who pay $10 to go see a movie when they can just wait for it to hit Netflix next year."

"I laugh at suckers who buy a $4 beer at a restaurant when they buy one at a liquor store and drink it on their couch $1."

"I laugh at suckers who buy the latest computer technology when they can pick up 2-year-old technology for a fraction of the price."

MSRP is an arbitrary number. If the 5850 had an MSRP of $500 but you had the opportunity to buy one at only $315.99, would you be in this thread bragging about what a great deal you just got?

Maybe I was a little harsh since I am always on a tight budget. But for people who can afford to pay for items that are marked up then more power to them.

No, if it were $500 (and the 5870 $600) I'd be thinking that the GTX295 is a bargain.

$$$ INFALTION, INFALTION....Next step they will email to you price target by Chinesse YAN...

That's the wrong use of the term.

Inflation (when used in terms of economics) is "a persistent, substantial rise in the general level of prices related to an increase in the volume of money and resulting in the loss of value of currency"

Yes we are seeing a persistence substantial rise in prices, but it is not a result of the American government printing more money. Prices in Radeon 5800s are not going up 10-15% because of American $$$ begin devalued. They are going up because that's what people are willing to pay for them.

I don't know if it means anything, but the Sapphire 5870 Cypress model has disappeared off Newegg's site. They just seem to have the Vapor X model on there. Not that they have any in stock...

edit: The Cypress is back on the site...

The Intel X-25 G2 mania might provide a little perspective. Same price increases by Newegg, perhaps even more extreme. Yet just a week ago without much fanfare, Newegg had a G2 sale at MSRP. They sold out, but it was a "real" sale, for about a day you could have bought a G2 at MSRP from the same web store that, just a month earlier, was marking it up over two hundred dollars.

Things can change quickly. Just like with Intel, AMD is ramping up production. With rumours NVIDIA may launch in January, AMD knows they have to flood the zone soon with product (if they want to take back market share).

You make it sound like AMD could "flood the zone with product" any time they wanted and consciously aren't doing so for some reason.

It appears that NewEgg puts some in stock every day between 12:00 and 1:00 PM CST. Sometimes they put up another batch in the evening after 7:00 PM CST as well.

This post was on the money. Newegg had the Powercolor 5870 at $409 and the Sapphire Vapor-X 5870 at $419 today. Both were posted at 2:00PM EST. By 2:06PM EST they were sold out. And here it is 8:39PM EST and the Diamond 5870 is in stock, $409.

ZipZoomFly has the 5870 Vapor-X in stock, but it's at $499. Sadly, it looks like I was correct that we would see that price for these cards before Christmas arrived.
