The 5970 is the 5870x2. I've seen OEM lists confirming the existence of a 5970 and recent rumor articles seem to peg that as Hemlock, the dual chip card. So it seems we may be in for a name change at this point unless ATI changes it before launch.
The card is 12" long for those curious.

How do the clocks/specs between 5970 and the 5870 compare?
I'll cut the the chase... would one be making a sacrifice using the 5970 with a 5870 in CrossfireX, or would it be the same as the 4870 + 4870 X2?
I'm far from committed to this configuration, but I haven't ruled it out either... I wonder if they dropped the 5870 X2 moniker because it's not two true 5870 cores, but something like two 5850 cores at 5870 clocks or vise versa.

From what I know, the HD 5870X2 was supposed to come out in october, but they probably won't make it. Looks more like second/third week of november. My guess is, that they are using all Cypress-chips they got on HD 5870, instead of putting two of them on a HD 5870X2. Related would be the fact that if there aren't a lot of Cypress-chips, they can't really do a solid launch with the HD 5870X2, so perhaps they are stocking up on them first.

The clocks weren't listed unfortunately. They entry was there, a mention of quarter four and the rest of the spreadsheet was empty for that part. I presume that means ATI hasn't finalized them yet.
