Three-quarters of Americans now accept the scientific consensus on climate change, the highest level in four years of surveys conducted by the University of Texas at Austin. The biggest shocker is what's happening inside the GOP. In a remarkable turnabout, 59 percent of Republicans now say climate change is happening, up from 47 percent just six months ago.

However, GOPers are still reluctant to do anything about it. I mean, why create a better world to prevent something that might not exist?

I hope it's possible to imagine a thoughtful individual being able to at once accept the preponderance of scientific evidence, while remaining skeptical of predictions of future events, especially in regards to highly complex, chaotic systems.

I'm right there with you, I can't wait for energy prices to go up as it means fewer poor people competing with me to purchase those supplies. Please raise carbon taxes and CAFE standards until only people in my income bracket can afford cars and I'll be a happy camper with a lot easier commute.

Alarming statistic. That is, such a high percentage of people hold something unproven as truth. Aside from religion, my guess is that global warming is now the #1 held belief for which there is insufficient or blatantly false "proof."
