5900 non ultra 256mb version

i have a 5900 non ultra 256mb version. its an engineering sample and i am getting about 4000 in 3dmark 03 with it. this seems very low to me. is this right or is it way off? and this card being an engineering sample is it worth trying to flash it with a newer bios ? my 3dmark 01 scores are only 15000 also.

2.2 celly abit bg-7 board 256 mb of ram that what got me that 4000 in 03
i was running my 2.4b@ 3.2 512 2700 ram to get the 15000 in 01 i will run 01 on this one tomorow and post the results

Your celeron is killing that system, not to mention only 256MB of RAM. But 3DMark 2003 is mostly GPU oriented, a lot more so they 2001, so the type of system you use won't make a huge difference. You may want to check your clock speeds on the card, to compare them with retail boards.

i will do the 3dmark 01 in a minute. i don't normally run a celly its kind of a back up till i get my new nf7 board

300mhz core currently? That's low. It should be 400 for a non ultra, 450 for an ultra.

3D clock speeds, not 2D.

300 is the core speed and 850 is the mem clock speed

my ti4200 is faster in 01 then this is

alright i just benched my ti4200 in the same system . i got 5787 only 500 points less then my 5900

its probably bottlenecked by your POS celery.

That Celeron is handicapping any chance you have of a decent framerate, as evidenced by your drop from 15K to 6K in 3DM01. I think 4K is about right for a 5900 with Det 52.16 in 3DM03v340, but you can check review sites for confirmation.

I wouldn't bother testing your 5900 until you get a decent gaming processor. If you want to see a difference between your 4200 and 5900 right now, try benching them with 4xAA and 8xAF. The 5900 shouldn't lose any performance (except in 3DM03, which is GPU-bound), and the 4200's scores should drop like a stone with pre-rendered clip planes.

well sorry my watercooled 2500+ @ 2.6 and my nf7-s rev. 2.0 is currently down. so if you think i am dumb or something go to hell. if you meant it as a joke good for you. i am not going for high frame rates i am going for hey look i can play need for speed underground again without it chopping all to hell.


edit: sorry to sound like an ass but i do have good equipement this is just a backup normally my linux box that i am running right now until i can get a new nf7 board. all i want is to be able to play my games again becouse they look like ass right now. i have played need for speed underground on a mx420 and a 1700+ processor with the same amount of ram. although it wasn't the greatest it played better then this is right now.

I am sorry your ultra overclocked computer is down, but you aren't going to get anywhere near playable frame rates with that POS Celeron processor and 256MB of RAM. So until you get something better, I would realize that you aren't going to be able to say, "hey look i can play need for speed underground again without it chopping all to hell." Sorry.

Are you sure you have though? The Celery is a lot slower then the rest of the current chips, and 256MB under WinXP isn't enough. 256MB and a Athlon 1.2GHZ under Win98 with the rest of your rig would likely increase your score considerably.

The Celeron is @$$ slow. I cannot stress the @$$ part of slow enough when it comes to gaming. Much slower than your XP1700+. Hasn't AMD (and now Intel, with the Pentium M) taught you that clock speed isn't everything? ;P

A lot of games depend greatly on the CPU, and obviously the games you play are choking on that sham budget CPU that Intel is pawning off on people. It's fine for undemanding office work--maybe even for NutBursting the intarweb--but not for games, particularly newer ones.
