Hey guys! Please read the details before you start commenting.

I have a pretty nice set up (per signature) and when I finally got everything together, I ran 3DMark06 and got a score of ~26,250. (CPU @ 3.8, GPU @ 800/1100)

Since then, I had some artifacting, so I brought the processor clock back down to stock speeds (it was at 3.8) and have the GPU at normal clocks. I have not over-volted. Here is a picture of the artifacting that I saw using MSI's kompressor stability test:

I ran the stability test, got the artifacts, and figured it was a bad card, but to make sure, I ran 3DMark06 again. The score had dropped to ~19,500

In testing the card, I decided to switch it out with a friend who has the EXACT same system, same mobo, processor, everything. My card installed into his at all stock clocks pulled ~23,500, and his card transplanted into my system pulled the same as before, 19,500.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest drivers, using driversweeper and everything, but its not seeming to get any better. I am using the catalyst 10.4 drivers.

Whenever I run a test using CCC, I get a weird artifact in the top left. Here is an image of it:

That artifact was not there with the initial run @ 26,250. What else can I try? Should I try going to 10.3 drivers? I don't seem to be getting as good of performance in games either, otherwise I wouldn't even notice it.

If I can answer any other questions that may help you think of options, please don't hesitate to ask. I am already in debt to you guys for taking the time to read this! Thanks!!!

How ventilation? Have you tried monitoring your cards temps during the run? The only other thing I can think of is to do a clean install of your OS.

If memory serves me right those are GPU related artifacts. have you checked temps?

Looks like reg old gpu artifacts to me. Run with the case open and see what happens.

So your card worked fine in his system? His card acted just like your card in your system? Did you see the artifacts when running a test with CCC in his system?

Hey guys...thanks for the feedback. He didn't run the CCC test. If you look at the temps using the Kompressor function, it may give some insight. It shows GPU1 at 99% and GPU running at 33%? Whats that all about?

It also has temperatures on it.

There are 2 problems. One is score, and one is artifacts, they are not dependent.
There are lots of processes running on a system. Turning the ones that aren't useful will free up some resources and thus better scores. However, the those mild load won't introduce artifacts, unless it is a driver problem/conflict.

as to the usage, you can check and see if you are using 16x on PCI-E.

Question: Are there artifacts when your video card run on your friend's PC?

Thanks for the ideas again. I'll move slots when I get a chance to crack the case open, but as I said before, the case has lots of room for breathing.

The PSU I have is more than enough for my system...850W w/ a 70A rail.

Seero- All of my slots are 16x

Tweakboy- the computer isn't slow, even in games. The issue here is mainly that the computer was better, and now has gone down for some unknown reason.

I see the memory running at 1150MHz? Stock HD 5970's run their memory at 1000MHz.

Also, ignore tweakboy, that guy just rambles, general consensus is he's on drugs 24/7 ...

The temps look ok in that screenshot....The 99% and 33% GPU usage may just be due to the program not needing all the power of both GPU's but I've never run it with dual GPU's before.

I guess if you would have tested your card for artifacts in your buddy's system it would have helped alot. It's possible something in windows got roached.

Seems like the 5970's get alot of trouble shooting help requests

dunno why it shows 1150. I never put it there. You can see the core clock at 725.

The highest I ever put it was 800/1100 when I did the first, successful 3DMark run.

I will have my friend run the test to see if he gets artifacts, but he won't likely be able to until sometime later this weekend.

Kombustor doesn't make up those values. Clock down your memory in CCC and see if it helps...

Hey guys...I've been out of town for a few days, and finally had a chance to get back on. I'm still getting 19250, and I'm at stock clocks across the board.

What other things can I try out to see if they work? Is there a chance its from the power supply? How can I test that?

Thanks for your advice.
