ATi seems to really be on top of their game now, generating more and more momentum as they progress forward.

My guess is that the 5970 moniker refers to the 5870x2 and I have to admit, I prefer the newer nomenclature if this is true.

I thought nVidia did a good job naming their GTX 275 sandwich a GTX 295 as opposed to GTX 275x2. The "9" denoting a higher class of performance. Perhaps AMD's marketing division is beginning to sense that as well.

One has to be left wondering that with such a scalable nature for ATi's latest cards (4000 series and up) whether or not nVidia can continue to combat their price/performance deliveries with ones of their own. I suppose it truly is somewhat of a "do or die" moment regarding the launch of Fermi.

You know it's just a matter of time until someone with an EVGA classified board and more money than sense coughs up some ridiculous number of 5870 GPUs in crossfire. But would it run Crysis on enthusiast...

376 WATTS... i thought they were going to fix that before release. I guess it's 2x a 5870 but I declare on information and believe that the other x2 cards from both camps managed to cut power draw somewhat compared to 2x. I'm too lazy to look it up though.

WHy? Do those ex-inqers have beef?

They've pretty much become outsourced PR departments for NV and AMD and do battle for them so no one of noble blood sullies their hands in the DX11 gen of marketing.

New PR tactics, Just whisper FUD to the Tech Press and watch it go

Recently I have noticed a trend in the way the Big Four [Three] technology companies are playing the marketing game. Well, not really recently, I have seen this one coming but it was not until a few recent events that I noticed that the source of my concern was actually the companies themselves and not (in many cases) the fault of bloggers and technical press playing favorites.

The costs will be near double a single hd5850 or hd5870. Also at 12.5" long, will it fit smaller cases? Can someone run 2 of the hd5970s for quadfire? If yes, expect lots of 3dmark records to be set!

haha i agree

I guess I was lucky when I bought mine. I kept checking ZZF for like three weeks before I bought mine and they always had one in stock...

Sometimes I think about getting another one just to do X-fire since I've never ran dual GPU.. but then I can't justify it with any of the games I play. Every game is 60fps max at all times with all settings to the max...

Wow, that is a large card - some might have to use xfire 5870's because that's all that would fit.
