5970 stopped working

Strange problem my 5970 stopped working on main pc.
Shut off my 3770k returned 2 hrs latter no screen on startup bios post codes Ab states the bios is normal.
Next I put a vga monitor on Intel HD-4000 and I have a screen again.
Removed the 5970 and replaced it with a spare 5870 now cool 2 screens a hd-4000 and a 5870.

Next I take the 5970 card that refused to work in the extreme4 after working normal and stick in 1366 at 4200MHz and it works strange.
Remove the temp 5870 and put back 5970 in the extreme4 3770k again no screen.

Cleared the bios reloaded with 2 different profiles that worked tried a different screen a new DVI_D plug cleaned out the PCI-e slot.
Tried the second PCI-e x8 slot slowed down the boot to give the Plx chip on the card more time to work.
Put the 5970 back in the 1366 which still works with it and put the 5870 in the 3770k.
The PS are pc power cooling 750 in both with less then 8 months on the 3770k.
The original PC 750 PS had a tri 5870 for a while.
What stopping my 5970 from working on the extreme4 after months of up time.

Did you recently flash the HD 5970 BIOS? If so, there could be a compatibility issue with the 1155 motherboard.

I was thinking about how during boot the cards are loaded with the full voltage, ergo that same value at which they run at the highest clocks (Boot flag, equals Optimal Performance flag, where clocks and voltage are concerned). This relates to a faulty PSU, managing a HD 5870, but not the superiorly power-hungry HD 5970. Given that the HD 5970 works on the other system, this is what comes to the idea. Inconvenient, but try switching the PSU's, if you still haven't figured it out. Good luck.

I did add a 5870 as the master with the 5970 as the second and no sign of the 5970 in hwinfo.
That 5970 worked for months but would never show up in bios I believe it only loads one gpu using a PLX chip on the card for load and idle.

I just had exactly this same problem with my computer (but different video card). The system worked perfectly then suddenly had no video at all. In my case, the power supply had degraded enough that it still worked when the system didn't demand a lot of power, but it wasn't supplying enough power for the video card. I replaced the PSU and haven't had a problem with the computer since then.

I have a new cheap antec neo 520c 40amp single line ps or is it to low.

According to AT's HD 5970 benchmark page, the maximum draw was rated at 439 W, which is 439/12~36,58 A.

It will suffice, if you only intend to test the system with the 520 W unit, to determine whether it powers up normally or not. Otherwise, I would utilize a superior power supply, if your plans involve loading the GPU without reservations. That 620 W unit should handle the task.
