Because I refuse to engage in the petty battle, "I" have the attitude. I see.
Madcat, do you want to participate in the benchmarks or not? If you do not, I see no other reason for you to be in here other than to start some sort of conflict, which I do not want.

Well, when you get your single 460, you're welcome to send me result files and I'll get them on the results page. Evolution8 is welcome to do so as well, if he wishes.

Hey Annisman, got any good numbers yet?

Deciding which game to bench first, just got Mafia 2 ! So I am considering doing that one first, maybe the first mission where Vito is in the Army. Bench that whole first level and get some results, my first day 'off' from work is Thurs. so by Thurs. night I should have a few games benched, will send them via email. Be patient lol.

I have three 5870s in CrossFireX @ 930/1250. Let me know if you want results. The rest of the specs are in my sig.

Can I ask a serious question?
What is the point of this thread? It almost seems like a giant nef thread in which absolutely no valuable data will be gained from it.

"Hey I got a great idea! How about we benchmark our cards using different systems because that is totally so much better than just looking at the dozens of sites that get paid to test hardware such as the site we are on right this moment."

Since I'm super rich, I went ahead and bought a shitload of video cards so I can run benchmarks for you, these are all on the same system so there will be a lot less inconsistencies than any above results. Here you go:

If you need more games let me know and Ill love to benchmark them for you.

Excellent thread crap. I'd give a solid 7 out of 10.

Your answer BEN90, because it's fun and interesting.

I think it's at least fun to do, even if there isn't too much scientific knowledge to be gained.

Ah, but the basis of science is testable theory and reproducible data...and it can definitely be fun to generate data that confirms (or casts doubt) on some of the published benching out there.

Personally I'm just sitting on sideline enjoying the online enthusiast collaboration that is going on here. It is a welcome change of pace.

I'd like to see the results especially because of the variety of systems, tester preferences, etc... A much broader picture can be seen that way.

If it just turns into everyone maxing out every setting and playing it at 19*12, then it's a waste. We already know the outcome of that. It'll be nvidia having higher unplayable framerates than ATI. I'd like to see what kind of settings these cards can generate playable frame rates, in different games, at different resolutions.

You seriously think that 460 SLI or 5870CF can not turn out playable framerates at 19x12 max settings? my single 460 can pull this off in most games.

Looking at Bench now (and these are only with 4XAA, so nowhere near 'max' settings), and I'd say at 19x12 that:

Crysis isn't (33.8fps)
Battleforge isn't (41.9/34.5 SSAO on high)
HAWX is (92)
L4D is (103)
BFBC2 isn't (44.7)
ME2 is comfortable (58)
Wolfenstein is (73.8)
Stalker:COP isn't (31)
Dirt 2 is (62.4)

So I think there's plenty of evidence to suggest that a stock GTX 460 isn't enough to play 'most games' at 19x12 'max settings', just from that little sample Your oc may help there, but that's not for me to speculate on

EDIT: I have some mafia2 .csv files to email you, Keys

Keys I honestly think it's the source of the benchmarking. You may do the testing with the greatest degree of objectivity but because of your associations, your credibility will suffer. It's the reason why Nvnews and AMDZone are never high on the list of reliable review sites, even though their testing methodology might be just fine.

This thread is a little different in that you're getting independent members to run the benchmarks. I imagine though that it will still be seen as a less credible review just because the benchmarking came at the request of a focus group member whose results will be added to the mix.

Just my .02. Sounds kind of fun to me personally. If I had any of the latest games, I would love to contribute.

Actually I think the timing of this initiative, after [H] had some articles on how CrossFire was getting spanked by 460 SLI, is what will cause some people to see ulterior motives.

Other than that it is a fun initiative.

IMO, though, I think a per game thread would be more informative: we would get something we hardly see in reviews - how real world configurations can affect GPU and CPU.

Name one review site that doesn't have an ulterior motive for doing benchmarking...

I don't know of any non-profit .org websites that do performance benching of GPU hardware. Perhaps one or two exists, but I bet even they rely on page-hits and advertising revenue to pay the bills.

Enthusiasts coming together and benching their own rigs is about as non-ulterior motive as you can get in a capitalist society.

Umm...how about this one?
www.anandtech.com

Are you saying Anand does video card testing for reasons other than to establish their relative performance?
And thereby attract page hits from people wanting to know the truth?

I have some mafia2 .csv files to email you, Keys

Send 'em on over mate. Be as detailed as possible about all your settings in your email. And include your method. This way, others can repeat and compare. Looking forward to seeing them. Looking for max playable settings. Crank up as much as you can while still being able to play.
Oh, and your rig details, clocks etc.

I didn't say there was an ulterior motive.

It is just the several factors that will create that appearance, regardless of being there or not.

But lets not derail this anymore than we need.

For those that want to see our pages so far, here is the link.

http://173.2.167.31:8880/ATCommunity/index.htm

The results grid page is being worked on, I'll add it in a few.

All suggestions are welcome!

Also, please let me know if the format is too wide for your screens. If so, I can reduce the percentage. Thanks.
