Huh, I guess we got a better service in Denmark:
One of the advantages is that you can take the internet with you anywhere in Denmark. So you can use it as a home network and take it with you in the summer cottage.

Yeah, but that is an evil commie country. you with all your freedom to roam around and stuff. Pfft.....

To be fair, Denmark is a touch smaller than the US, so it's easier for them to say you can take it anywhere, plenty of spots in the US that you might not even have 3G.

It would be interesting to know if you get spanked for using the station elsewhere. Crappy service is better than no service. They should just call roaming "unsupported" and leave it to the user to decide.

That is true, but they could just say they only guarantee 5G speeds at your home address, and when you bring it anywhere else speed might vary, or there might be no connection at all.

And since your service is linked to the sim card, what happens if you put into another device.

That would be the bomb, for the WFH types who have an RV. Take your 5G with you and travel on weekends and PTO days, then set up somewhere nice that is still on the 5G map. Put in your work and then play. I know you can hot spot a phone, but it is a PITA when you use the same phone for work convos. Much better with a dedicated setup.
We used an extra cell phone as our main internet before fiber became available. Had it Bluetoothed into the old wireless home phone so the real home phone would ring if someone called that cell number. Had "unlimited" service but you were deprioritized after 55 GB. Worked way better than cable internet.

They ran fiber all the way out here so now we have fiber.

We could have done it without the extra line but as you say better to have a dedicated setup.

Cable internet must be pretty sketchy in your area if any wireless internet is actually better especially for stuff like online gaming or live-streaming. (much like satellite there's no way around the latency even with solid 5G)

Pretty cool way to incorporate the wired phone into the network and at the same time cut back on e-waste by re-purposing the old smart-phone though!

Cable was fine in town but horribly unreliable out on the lake. There is a tower a mile away so our cell signal is fantastic.

Using the phones as our primary internet required a shift away from being computer centric to being phone centric. We only had full 4G speed to the phones. The teathered computers were only getting 3g speeds so that part was not better, however our phones were able to do so much we rarely missed the computers. Using a DeX basically turns the phone into a computer with a keyboard, mouse and monitor.

I'm not a big fan of online gaming (preferring single player) so that wasn't an issue. Updates took a while at 3G speeds...

Panasonic phones have a cool Link2Cell feature which eliminates the need for a Land line phone.

The way we did it the Home Cell had an actual phone number. These new 5G hubs would need to use some sort of VOIP, maybe Google Voice?

I've been a bit curious about this. Checked their website a few times and didn't really get the answers I'd hoped for. Out running errands today I spotted one of their stores so i figured I'd stop in and get some information.

Girl spoke so soft I could barely hear her. Every question I asked ... she fumbled with her tablet searching their website. Was not able to answer a single question directly. I got more blunt. She said she'd go ask the other clerk. I left.

They've been talking about expanding high-speed internet in our county since the mid 2000s. Still waiting.
Heard on the news the other day the county got some federal money for this & they're talking about adding more towers. But i'm not holding my breath.
Currently the closest cell tower is about 6-7 miles away.

Not new though, I had that with Vtech phones since 3g.
Just uses Bluetooth to turn any bluetooth linkable phone (paired AND in range) into another handset.
Allows you to receive calls on any handset, but you have to dial out on the cell phone.
I you want or want to keep a cordless home phone setup, then connect them to a wireless home phone base.
It has it's own cell phone number (just keep your landline #) and connects directly to an existing landline connector allowing all existing landline or cordless phones and extensions to keep working.
We've had that here since 3g, although we did have to get a new 5g base unit when they turned off 3g.

I'm sure our Panasonic could also dial out, which was handy because we kept our home cell docked. It was running the show for 2 years. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Saved a small fortune.

I did a speedtest last night just to see how the 5G is around here, got 570 down and 70 up. Definitely faster than comcast that I'm using at home but I don't think I'd trust it for gaming.

Are you with Verizon? My 5G is only half your speed, but I'm on Spectrum.

I'm on Fi so probably on a T mobile tower, coverage is a little spotty around here but you get great speeds as long as you have a decent signal.

Ya know, this could actually work if you're in an area with Verizon 5G Ultrawideband.

I got to try finally try it out in Miami, and I was getting speed tests of about 1.5 Gbit down and 50 Mbit up on my iPhone 13.

It's too bad that it's only available on certain streets.
