EDIT: $200 check arrived today from HP, exactly 4 weeks after mailing the submission.

I was hoping to do another batch of five sticks today, but the new $20 rebate is cold ($48.70 -20 rebate = cold for now anyway).

Well, either HP is going to have to drop the initial price, or they're going to have to issue a new rebate form. DRAM spot market prices continue to decline, so they're dreaming if they think $29 per stick AR is a good deal.

Corsair DDR2-800 (XMS 5-5-5-12) was just $39.99 AR for 2GB; you can't convince me that the HP is worth $60 AR. LOL...

Just got my RAM today. But the invoice from CostCentral doesn't include a purchase price, which the rebate form tells you to circle. Am I screwed?

The only thing included with my order from cc was a packing slip, but you can print out an "invoice" from the website with the price and order date, that's what I sent in.

Yeah, I guess that was just a packing slip I got. They sent me an html "invoice" right after I ordered it. Hopefully HP won't be too picky about a print-out.

Warning: this HP memory does not work correctly on non-Intel chipsets.
Only 512 Mb is recognized on a VIA chipset motherboard.
Switched to an Intel chipset board, and all 1024 Mb is recognized.
I will be RMA'ing this memory back to TechOnWeb (unless someone wants it for $12, shipped).

Edit: The VIA chipset board is the ECS P4M800PRO-M(V2.0) with the
bios version: 07/05/25. There's a later bios version (070830), but that version
renders OSX unbootable, for some reason.

Root cause is probably BIOS issue from the el-cheapo MB. The last semi-viable VIA board came out about two years ago.

While it may not work on a certain few specific chipsets,

I think it does work on most.

I have used it on an AMD 690g ,and currently have 4 gig's running on an nvidia 560 board.


Please post what board you had trouble with,so i know to look out for it.

They work great on my Tforce 550.

They are both made by Crucial with D9 ICs. Perhaps the working module has ICs on both sides. Junk MBs may have difficulty with single-sided stick.

WOOT! I got my rebate check!

Mailed: 10/24
Date on check: 11/5
Date received: 11/10

I had checked my mailbox Friday evening, and didn't check it again until this morning so it must have gotten here Saturday. $160 (only got 4, now I think I should have gotten 5). That was hands down the fastest rebate I have ever gotten except for those OnRebate straight-to-PayPal rebates. Those took only about 1-2 weeks (you still need to mail it in and they need to process it), but they charge a fee for it, up to around 20% of the rebate thereabouts.
