I want to know aboout things to watch out for when picking a company to go with.
One thing is, you want a place that has online management tool, so that you don't have to call someone on the phone every time you want to change your mailing address, DNS info, etc. What happens if the guys you pick go out of business? Might you LOSE your registration? I've heard there are shadey places that don't register the domain to YOU, but to themselves and only LET YOU USE IT, if you want to pay for THEIR services... can they do that?
Also, a long gone dot com venture has a domain name that expires in about 6 months, and I want it. Is there some way to put some money down with someone to guarantee I'll get it, that's not a total SHAFT? snapnames.com seems to want $67 for what is not clear.
Hopefully someone just responds to this with a good link. Maybe article or massive FAQ about all the possible pitfalls, and how to avoid them (or use them to one's advantage)!!
Thanks in advance
EDIT: this looks interesting
