I'd rather stick with godaddy.com. It's $8.95 but that's their normal price. This place is $6.99 but normally $12.99 so when you go to renew it'll be much more than at other places.

[EDIT]: although, you could always register with these people and then at the end of the year transfer it to someone like godaddy.com who charges $7.75 for a transfer + 1 year of registration. I don't know if I'd want to go through that for $3 tho..

Yeah godaddy.com plus everydns.net is the way to go...complete package for $7/year (10 year registration) or $9/year (1 year registration).

An enom reseller with a low rate is the best option. Enom provides by far the most control over your domain (no external DNS service required, and 5 reliable nameservers).

I want to know aboout things to watch out for when picking a company to go with.

One thing is, you want a place that has online management tool, so that you don't have to call someone on the phone every time you want to change your mailing address, DNS info, etc. What happens if the guys you pick go out of business? Might you LOSE your registration? I've heard there are shadey places that don't register the domain to YOU, but to themselves and only LET YOU USE IT, if you want to pay for THEIR services... can they do that?

Also, a long gone dot com venture has a domain name that expires in about 6 months, and I want it. Is there some way to put some money down with someone to guarantee I'll get it, that's not a total SHAFT? snapnames.com seems to want $67 for what is not clear.

Hopefully someone just responds to this with a good link. Maybe article or massive FAQ about all the possible pitfalls, and how to avoid them (or use them to one's advantage)!!

Thanks in advance

EDIT: this looks interesting nextregistrationrights.com

I currently have ENOM at 14.95 yr ...... They provide me 13 email forwards (for all my Free stuff mag signups!)

I was looking at Godaddy and Namcheap, but GODADDY is 8.95 yr (no email fwds) I have to pay an addtl 1.00 for each Qty 5 email forwards

Does anyone know if Namecheap includes this? And if they are a reputable company?

Should I just Stay with Enom? Btw its only a personal site I run on my Cox.net account

Does enom offer the above? Which others are respectable registration services?
