What are some uses for these types of batteries? I would definitely not use them in my digital camera that's for sure. I can imagine using them for an MP3 player or a walkman.

They are perfect for digital cameras...that use AA batteries. Use them as you would use regular AA natteries. There might be SOME devices that should not use batteries like this but I'm not aware of any restrictions.

All you people out there thinking these won't last in your digital cameras, all I have to say is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.

In my Nikon and Sony DSC-P30 cameras, NiMH 1600 mAH batteries lasted LONGER than name-brand alkaline.

Go figure. Must be the discharge rate or something.

Another thing: BEWARE OF CHEAP CHARGERS. They WILL ruin your NiCD and NiMH batteries. Best to get a good microprocessor-controlled charger with a temperature sensor. I have a great Maha MH-C204F charger that works off of 12 volts (for marine/car use) and 120 volts for in-home.

The NiMH batteries will work in cameras... also Walkman-style personal radios, kids toys, flashlights, GPS receivers, old-style PDA's, most anything that uses a battery will work just fine with a NiMH rechargable.

A couple of caveats:

(1) the discharge pattern is different for alkaline and NiMH batteries. The alkalines start at full voltage and taper off in a more-or-less linear fashion as they are used up. Gadgets that have battery guages (like GPS receivers) make use of this to tell you battery condition. NiMH, on the other hand, start at a lower initial voltage and maintain almost that exact same voltage throughout their life, until they rapidly drop to 0 when discharged. Point is, a dead battery "sneaks up" on you and so having spares is important.

(2) the shelf life of a new alkaline battery is several years, making them suitable for use in emergency flashlights and etc. Due to internal resistance and other esoteric factors, a fully charged NiMH battery begins to discharge at the rate of 1% or 2% or more per day, just sitting around. So, they are not really suitable for things that you only use every once in a while, unless you know that you'll have time to recharge the battery or slip in a freshly charged set.

Lenmar?...Oh, that rings a bell...when PhotoAlley had that pricing error on the Sharp VL-WD450U mini-DV camcorder, they included a free Lenmar tripod with it...it was the 2nd most pathetic-looking tripod I had ever seen, but I tried using it anyway...broke in under 5 minutes, and I literally had to throw it into the garbage. Lenmar for batteries? Why? You get what you pay for. I would go with a name brand like Gold Peak, Monster or Nexcell.

Have purchased the Maha charger and assorted NiMH batteries from deals here. My question pertains to the possibility that there is a charger similar to the quality Maha 204 that handles more than 4 AA batteries at a time. Yea I could purchase another one, but that is not what I am looking for. The kids have Rokenbok vehicles, digital cameras, electronic toys, MP3 players, etc., etc.., etc. On any given day it seems we are needing more than 4 AA batteries.

I agree! These are probably no worse then Energizer Rechargable Batts. I bought 8 Gold Peak batts and they are super nice for few bucks more.

If you go to e-bay you can get 1800's Nexcell or Gold Peak for 2.15 each. What a deal huh???

The same deal that Fry's has had for a couple of weeks on and off. I looked but, as somebody observed, very small and I wouldn't be too apt to trust it.

Also only 2 at a time so since most of the things I'd use it for take 4 cells at a time it's annoying to have to charge up two sets of two.

The same area in the store had a 4 cell charger for something like $12.

FYI, just like in the computer world lots of batteries are relabeled. I have found lots of batteries of all types from different brands that are exactly the same battery. When it comes to alkaline's, to my knowledge there are only 3 companies that actually manufacture the batteries (Eveready, Duracell, and Rayovac). Give me any alkaline and I can tell you who made it.

The same is true for rechargeable's. I have a number that are sold by different companies yet are the same batteries. In fact some newer Radio Shack rechargeables seem to be identical to my new Gold Peak rechargeables.

Just something to keep in mind when battery shopping.
