Price? You can get a used 4790k combo (with known overclocking characteristics) with RAM for half the price of a new 6700k bundle at this point.

50% the price for 98% of the perf is a good trade off IMO.

5820K or 4790K. Skylake is a disappointment. We've hit the point, where with overclocking consistently getting worse on every new chip generation, that we've reached a state where the last generation is faster with both overclocked.

I dont think this is really true for skylake. It looks like overclocking will be as good as haswell if early indications hold up. And there is an ipc gain, so ultimate performance should be higher. Now it is a somewhat disappointing gain, and certainly not worth an upgrade from haswell but I dont buy that it is a regression.

So as mainly a gamer who plays, BF, Dayz, Arma 3, Total War, and other games like those, is there any benefit for 6 or 8 cores yet?

I have a 4770k at 4.3ghz and 8GB ram with a 980Ti at 1290mhz clock.

I'm going 5960x from my sig rig (4770k @4.7/980ti SLI so will let you know how I get on in Arma 3.
