6 in 1 Media Reader/Writer USB 2.0 Internal $30 Shipped

My first real deal post, it probably sucks and I'll be flamed but so be it:

www.ajump.com has the Apacer 6 in 1 Internal Media Reader/Writer USB 2.0, with a front USB 2.0 Port for $30 shipped free. The USB 1.1 version sells on Newegg for $25 shipped. It includes beige and black bezels. Hooks up to your motherboad's USB header. This was a good deal for me. I was looking for a black internal media reader to use with my digital camera. I almost bought the USB 1.1 version for $25, worth the extra $5 for USB 2.0.

Yes, but it's gotten extremely terrible reviews, both here and on newegg.

Depends on what your looking for. For my purposes I wanted USB 2.0, a black faceplate, nothing stupid looking, and internal. This reader fit the bill perfectly and $30 is a decent price. Added bonus was the front USB 2.0 port for when I get my pen drive and kill the floppy for good. Can you get a cheaper unit, sure you can but most I've seen that are cheaper are USB 1.1. This same style reader in the USB 1.1 version was $25 shipped at newegg, so for $5 more I went with the USB 2.0 version. I think it's worth it since the mega pixel count on cameras keeps going up meaning larger files to transfer. The extra speed will help one of these days. Now can anyone find a deal on a large capacity USB 2.0 pen drive?

the iwill reader on newegg looks nice.. it's not an internal though... and i think it's usb1.1

Snagged one as well. Even has an extra USB 2.0 port on the front, which is what I liked on the Soyo 6in1...no others offered this that I saw until this one. Thanks!

Banana PC has the Soyo Bayone 6 in 1 for $23.65 (shipping for me was $4.79).

I have the Soyo and it's nice. 2.0, also. FWIW, similar deal, different brand.

Question...that Soyo 6-in-1...is it USB2.0 on all connections? I have the 5-in-1 now, but it is only USB2.0 on those ports...the readers themselves are only USB 1.1...

My Apacer 6-in-1 usb header connector does not fit my ASUS mobo. Until I make the time to re-wire it, its black faceplate does look nice in the case! Sure wish there was a standard for USB connectors!

Most flash memory is surprisingly slow, on an order of magnitude of USB 1.12 slow. The 2.0 interface will ~never be the bottleneck.

USB is not native to 98. It is rather strange, however, that a driver is needed for 2000, but not XP. XP is USB 1.1 PnP, and .NET doesn't need the USB 2.0 driver install.

For reference, I snagged a SanDisk 2.0 6-in-1 external which works like a charm. At least as fast as the little SD chip can read/write. In any case a little vinyl dye can readily fix the beige problem, so this one looks promising.
