Hi,

I just bought an internal 6 in 1 reader writer USB 2.0 for $27 a few days ago, before posting I waited to actually receive it and test it. It's a good deal I am happy. Hope this helps anyone that is looking for one. Here is the link to the product: http://www.memorywizards.com/pd_soyo.cfm

If someone posted this deal already or better, sorry

-Mike

This might be a weird question, but does anyone know if stuff designed to hook up to a motherboard USB header will work off a powered hub, with appropriate re-wiring?

Forgive my ignorance but, does anyone know if this will work with a Dell Dimension 4500. I'm not sure if the MB connections are standard or proprietory. It's not mentioned in the referece book, and it's a chore to get to my PC to rip it apart. I am hoping for an easy answer. It has 6 USB 2.0 ports, 4 in rear 2 in front. Thanks for any help!

No, I don't think it will work. I have a Dim. 4500 and I don't think it has the internal USB connection as it uses a propriatary connection for the front USB ports....

Thanks for the deal. In case you have a Fry's around, they usually have these on sale, can't remember the price though. I went ahead and ordered one for a Media Center PC I'm putting together.

Keep in mind that the reader is only USB 1.1. The external ports are 2.0.

6-in-1 combination reader/writer supporting Smart Media (3.3V), Panasonic Secure Digital, Multi Media, Sony Memory Stick, compact Flash (both type I & II), and IBM Micro Drive.
Two (2) high speed USB 2.0 ports for easy front access.
Three (3) flash memory slots offering simultaneous read and write capabilities, bootable feature, and hot-swapping (insert or remove flash memory card without turning the system off).
Unique breakout box that fits perfectly into standard 3.5" or 5:25" bay
Additional face plates (black and silver) included to match your system case!
Flash memory access LED indicators
High speed (12 Mb/s) USB 1.1 interface access to flash memory cards
Eject button for easy removal of Compact Flash
Compatible with Windows XP, 2000, ME, 98/98SE, and Linux

Keep in mind that USB2.0 is sort of worthless for reading off memory cards, as the card becomes the bottleneck.

I thought the same thing but people have reported faster speeds with USB 2.0 readers compared to 1.1 readers.

I had earlier bought the SanDisk 6in1 USB 2.0 reader and when it worked it was blazing fast (on CF) compared to my Lexar reader. It was supremely buggy overall and I got rid of it though.

Anyone know if it's a problem for me to hook my USB1.1 MB headers to the USB2.0 ports? I'm assuming the pinout is the same, just better quality. So, I end up with two USB1.1 ports in front, not USB2.0.

Thanks for the help from anyone who spends more money on their rig than I do....

I have both 1.1 Apacer and recently picked up the 2.0 USB Apacer and they both work great. The Apacer is not only 2.0 USB on the front port but all the Flash memory slots are 2.0 also. I believe the Soyo one is only 2.0 on the USB port but not on the media slots.
Not sure if Ajump still has it instock.

I just got this one Link. Found it for $30 thanks to FW.
It is usb2.0 on the port and all slots. The two bezels are
also a nice touch. I'm 100% satisfied.

Sorry, didn't mean to repeat what you just said coopers, I'll read a little
closer before posting next time
