I wanted to point out a recent issue I had. I apologize if opening this old topic is in poor taste.

I received my third bill today from AT&T, when I originally signed up I was told the first two months billed at the full price for 3mbps which is $40/month. $25 from each of these months is supposed to roll over into credit after a few months and the third month is supposed to be charged at $15/month.

Anyways, I called today because my third bill was still at $40. I was told that the $15 price would not start until next month and that neither of the previous months had rolled over into credit either. I did have the rep check to make sure I was correctly filed on the $15/month plan, which he claimed I was. While I hope this works out, I would say this seems a very disingenuous practice and really just causes more confusion.

I hope others have not had issues.

My relative that I got onto this deal was concerned about the same issue this weekend. I checked his previous bills, and it was only his SECOND month of this deal. Considering that this thread was started here only 2 months ago, are you sure you have had the upgraded service for three months already?

after being bounced back and forth in AT&T's phone system for about an hour, I gave up and just called the local cable company. God it suck to have no choices other than two very evil companies.

cyberia: Thanks for the comment. I actually did sign up three months ago as this deal was ongoing with AT&T before it was posted here. Hopefully things will be cleared up next month. The practice of charging full price and then reimbursing without clear guidelines just seems shady to me. Overall, the actual service has been fine though.

I am not happy about it either, especially when I have to keep track of someone else's (the relative's) reimbursement. I guess AT&T wants to make sure they don't end up reimbursing a person who cancels on them too soon.

I was able to use this to get Comcast to give me 12mbps down @ 19.99 for 12 months.

Graxe: Have you ever resolved the billing issue with AT&T? I was optimistic last month, but it looks like my relative got the third bill and no discount on it.

Have everyone else gotten their discounts? I can totally see the nightmare of trying to convince their billing department that I was signing up for a promotion 3 months ago.

The fine print for this deal said something about getting billed at the higher rate for 2 months before getting reimbursed. I just got my fourth bill for the full rate. I called the DSL support number today - the CSR said the note on my account for the deal "somehow" got "lost." Yeah. So, to make up for it I'm getting a two month ($30 for me) discount off my next bill and the next 12 months at the discounted price. We'll see. But I encourage anyone still waiting to be reimbursed to call AT&T.

Good deal but not available in my area either. My $14.99/month 3Mbps DSL deal with Verizon is about up. Frontier, who bought them out in WV, is still honoring my Verizon contract, but when it's up my rate is going way up.

Just to point out, got my 4th bill a bit ago and while I got reimbursed $75 for the first three months, the billing was still in error. Thus I was being charged $40 a month again. I will be calling in a bit to try and sort things out. School has been more of a priority though.

I did get a letter before the latest bill stating that there was a billing error with my account and that it should be resolved (as of that letter). Suffice to say that was very much incorrect. Heres to hoping I can get this sorted out.

I just had a lovely time talking to the ATT CSRs. Suffice to say I mean that as sarcastically as possible. The song and dance that the CSR gave me was that you pay the full $40 price each month and that you get $25.05 in credit on the next bill. Clearly this is not what I was informed when I signed up and extremely inconvenient. Time Warner Cable is offering their 7mbps cable (which I had previously) at $35/month in my area; I think I will be switching back to that. In my opinion this is not a hot deal and very misleading by the ATT salespeople.

This is not so bad. There is a 1-month lag, kind of like a rebate. Your bill is $14.95 every month (after the first month in which you pay the full $40). If you cancel the service, in the worst case, you never recoup the extra $25.05 you paid in the first month.

Considering that they have been overbilling you so far, I would demand the credit for the previous 3 or 4 months, including the current months, to be posted right away. That should take care of the first month overpayment.

So far, I am being scammed by AT&T. I have gotten 4 bills and no discount. I called them 2 weeks ago (after the 3rd bill) and was promised it would be fixed. I have just received a new bill and still no discount.

I am speaking to them right now and they are promissing a discount on "the next bill" again and they are only discounting it down to $24.95 instead of $19.99.

FCC is my next stop.

EDIT: Just finished talking to them. I was transferred in the process and the new CSR was much more knowledgeable. She claimed to have credited me for the initial 4 months and that future bills will reflect the disconted rate. I will believe it when I see it.

Did she give you the 19.99 per month?

I've had similar experience with Comcrap. Without any documentation, its your word against theirs.

She did (or so she said). She actially said it will be $19.95. The credit that she applied to my account for the past 4 months does indeed reflect the $19.95 price.

The way it is supposed to work out is:

1) "Oficially", I am getting a 12-month deal starting in mid-December - the day I called the first time. The monthly rate is $19.95.

2) I got a manual adjustment of $28/month from late August to mid-December. That's based on the date my service was bumped to the 6Mbps tier and the promotion was supposed to start.

3) Starting in mid-December, the $19.95 rate oficially took effect, so she did not have to adjust it. It will be billed correctly from now on.

The strange thing is, the current balance does NOT reflect the discounted price as of mid-December. She claimed it was because the promo rate started in mid-cycle. I would have to wait for the next full cycle to see the correct discounted rate with no gimmicks. That's why I am still suspicious: It's that "on your next bill" excuse all over again.

I hope it will not get to me having to contact the FCC. Yes, it will be my word against theirs. But, if I am not alone, I doubt the FCC will let them get away with this for too long. They did get slammed for slamming :awe: back in the '90s, didn't they?

It's pretty sad when the only way to get their attention is to have the government involved (which with each passing day, seem more and more like a sock puppet of large corporations.)

cyberia: I hope this explains why I was frustrated with my last posting. I did not end up switching to Time Warner, I'm going to run out the credit on my account. It seems like its an issue of the lesser of two evils though.

That being said, when I called my rates were adjusted much in the manner of cyberia's post. I was told differently though that the $40 full rate would be charged with a credit towards the account on the next bill. As I am on the 3mbps plan, it is supposed to be $14.95 a month.

My assumption is that I have been charged $14.95 this month, but I cannot find the new bill on their redone website. I have also not yet seen a paper bill. I think this happened though as I had $20.20 in credit, whereas last month had $35.15 credit. Basic math tells me this is $14.95 in difference.

I would say the actual internet connection is fine, the issue for both ATT and Time Warner is customer service which is horrible for both. ATT gets the lead in my mind currently for such screwy billing though.

Oddly enough, the bill was posted today and it was for $14.95. While this was the wanted result, it goes against the previous statements that I had from a CSR saying I would be billed $40 each month with the difference credited to my account the next month.

I hope any other issues people are having are resolved.

I signed up.

I hope it's as fast and reliable as cable because I can't wait to give the big middle finger to TWC.

I tend to go back and forth between TWC and AT&T every 2 years to get the newest promo. I haven't noticed any "real world" difference between the 6mbps AT&T and the 7mbps TWC (Earthlink) service.
