I am a current customer and just upgraded to the AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet Elite Package for $27.99 for 3-6 megabit speed

Service should start on Thursday, thanks for the great deal.

BTW: I was paying $24.99 for 1.5-3 megabit, so this is a great $3.00/mo for double the speed upgrade.

I have the regular Comcast service $45/mo. and I am getting 4.5 to 5.5 Mbps DL. The funny thing is, I was getting only 1.5 to 3.5 Mbps until some post had info on how to tweak your network settings. It's some program that works great! I tweaked a Win2000 and XP computer and both can hit 5.5 Mbps! Also, I am now able to DL more than 2 files at a time! It's been unbelievable getting 15 pings on CS. Before this tweak, I was very frustrated with slow speeds. Now, it couldn't be better! My upload is ~360 Kbps but I don't host any servers...anyway, I hope those who aren't getting the fast speeds, I think you need to search for the apps that optimizes your network settings!

Does anyone know what the advertised upload speed is with the 6Mbps download. I know it varies just like the download, but what is the max?

I got this with my confirmation via email.

Speeds for AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet Elite Package are 3.0 to 6.0 Mbps downstream and 384 to 608 Kbps upstream. Maximum realized speed achieved depends on customer location.

WRONG. I have comcast gold plan (8mbit/1mbit). I ALWAYS get between 7.9 and 8.5 megabits down and 0.95 - 1.0 megabits up with them, these are actual download speeds. Sometimes I need multiple connections to saturate my full bandwidth (i.e. the other end is the bottleneck). I have never seen these speeds dwindle, and have been on the high-speed plan since they began offering it (1 year +). NOTE that it is very dependent on having a new modem. My speeds were ~4 mbit/0.6mbit on an old RCA DCT215, upgraded the modem to a Motorola SB5120, and BAM! 8mbit/1mbit every time.

This 'overselling the network' crap from DSL fanbois is getting old..

Other than that, nice price...

so, from your sole personal experience, everyone else is wrong...including the person who posted above you saying that he's on the 6mb plan but only gets 1.1mb/s down? here i'll quote him for you:

fanboi BS. i personally think that stupid...whatever works fastest/cheapest is teh best...whatever the service.

I went onto the website, checked upgrade offers, it automatically offered me the 12 month at $27.99 for the 3.0-6.0mb package, during the ordering process it asked if I wanted the 2Wire wireless hub, there was an option to order it, or "no thanks I don't need to upgrade my equipment" and since I just got DSL installed the first of the year, I didn't see a need for new equipment.

Edit: forgot to add in January I got the 1.5-3.0 package at $22 a month, so $6 isn't gonna kill me.

I ended up calling. I am an existing customer and the first time I called they tried to charge me 41.99. I hung up and called 5 min later and got in at 29.99 with no hassle and no extra call packs. Oh and I believe the upload is 768 even though its listed as 608 on the website.

If you don't have it than it's an extra fee you have been paying monthly on your phone bill all your life to support the people who do called the FCC Universal Service Charge.

I recently went out of contract with SBC. Yesterday I clicked the upgrade link and got the "Unable to upgrade" message. I tried today with success.

Although I would much rather have cable, I cannot find a better value than this in my area. Comcast in my area requires basic cable to subscribe to internet and the lowest that I have seen is $19.99 for six months with a $45 fee per month thereafter.

You mean the extra fee you pay for making too much money...which means that the phone
companies take the chance to stick it to you.

It is also known as a lifeline...great if you make less than $22k or so

What do I have to do if I'm a new customer? I see no such plan on their site. The highest I can pick is the 1.5-3.0Mbps package

You can check with customer service but 1.5-3.0 is probably the highest speed available for that address.

SBC won't re-rate me to take advantage of the current Pro promotion of $17.99/mo so I was thinking of upgrading to this instead. Unfortunately, it's not available in my area and SBC is talking about charging me $40/month for 1.5-3.0. That most definitely is not going to happen.

Well, my primary source of income comes off coop. Unless my next coop gives me more than $21 an hour (I highly doubt it), I will try this. Does being in college count as not making enough?

edit: I just looke dit up and it pretty much says you have to be on welafre to get the cheaper service. I am not really welfare material

YYMV on SBC/Yahoo... I know 3 people personally that have ditched SBC for packet loss / outages / high pings / low bandwidth. (all 3 of them had all 4 issues, and were in different states).

Maybe it has not kicked in yet... LOL

I ordered mine yesturday, hoping it is going to be better than Charter cable 3Mb that cost me 45 a month and constant dropping. I got the free setup insteaad of being charge teh 42 bucks or whatever it is. Cost me 13 bucks for phone service, had to get long distance to get the 6Mb connection at 27 a month. So i should be around the same price i pay for cable after all the taxes. Haven't checked yet but hopefully the central office is near me and i get better speeds
