So much for "growing popularity" seems most American are smarter than Zebo and don't waste their time giving it a second chance.

Considering how fat Americans are becoming it would be a good thing if a sport that required lots of running became more popular...

I have about 10 other problems with the fundamentals of the game plus the fact USA sends halfletes but I let tried to let the hate go like OB1 says last couple weeks with an opened mind thinking I was wrong about how gay it is, nope, just added 6 more, here are my additional observations.

1. Goal free games. What a waste of 90 minutes to see guys kicking ball around. Rectangle jerk a circle jerks cousin.

2. Shameless diving for calls and refs that are sucked in. What a bunch of pussies I've been hit walking through crowds harder than that and these guys act like they have been shot only to run around for dozens of minutes afterwords.

3. Lame yellow and red cards which totally alter games for #2.

4. Amateurish officiating. Even when someone actutally scores a very rare goal it's taken away by refs who don't see it. See UK and USA. What a bunch of fools.

5. Droning of plastic horns drowning out every other sound in the stadium removing all fan excitement.

6. Stalling. Okay game is already boring as fuck w/o any scoring but once someone scores and is assured placement in the "round of 16" and opponent is assured the same all they do for the next 45 minutes is pass the ball to each other trying nothing see Chile & Spain.

1) nothing wrong with a tie

2) yea its annoying and ill get fixed sooner then you think

3) see #2

4) refs miss calls in every single sport, its nothing new and will never change

5) that only happens in the WC and more specifically WCs held in Africa. its really not an issue at all in European football

6) stalling is no different then taking a knee and running the last 2 minutes off the clock in an NFL game

so yea your list sucks

1. Goal free games. What a waste of 90 minutes to see guys kicking ball around. Rectangle jerk a circle jerks cousin. What's the difference if it's 0-0, 2-1, 3-3? Still a close, exciting game if it's played well. Frustrating if it's not. Does't make it a waste of time.

2. Shameless diving for calls and refs that are sucked in. What a bunch of pussies I've been hit walking through crowds harder than that and these guys act like they have been shot only to run around for dozens of minutes afterwords. Have you ever seen basketball? Joakim Noah says hi.

3. Lame yellow and red cards which totally alter games for #2.

4. Amateurish officiating. Even when someone actutally scores a very rare goal it's taken away by refs who don't see it. See UK and USA. What a bunch of fools. Replay is needed, most people agree.

5. Droning of plastic horns drowning out every other sound in the stadium removing all fan excitement. That isn't every soccer game, that's South Africa. Hold your breath, a new meme will show up soon.

6. Stalling. Okay game is already boring as fuck w/o any scoring but once someone scores and is assured placement in the "round of 16" and opponent is assured the same all they do for the next 45 minutes is pass the ball to each other trying nothing see Chile & Spain. Have you ever seen baseball? Football?

The other thing I don't get is how there are only like 5 shots on goal / team /game. I mean the net is damn near 30 feet wide, how the hell do you only put the ball on net 5 times in an hour and a half? Hockey has a net that is less than 4 feet wide and you see 30+ shots on net / game.

IMO, that's what makes the games so damn boring, not the low scoring. Hockey has low scoring usually, but it is still exciting because the goalie at least has to make a couple dozen saves.

How many of those 30+ shots in hockey actually have a decent chance of scoring? Randomly peppering the goalie doesn't make it exciting, the excitement comes from the build up to the potential solid opportunities. A team working the puck in the zone is exciting. Because a rink is much smaller than a soccer field, it is bound to happen more often.

I like most team sports, soccer included, and they're all interesting for different reasons, but you can pick on any other game for the same exact reasons you guys are posting here. Screw it, let's just watch Bigfoot trucks.

Don't like it? Quit watching. Your lack of understanding of the subtleties of the game does not mean the game sucks.

I don't blame ya, we have much better sports than soccer in this country. But hey, if you could only drink Bud Lite for your entire life you'd think it was the best beer as well.

Oddly enough, 90% of the people watching your "better sports" are drinking that Bud Light.

And 90% of Bud Light drinkers are lazy and like to have beer brought to their seat so they don't miss a moment of XYZ US Sport that is better than soccer.

Soccer is still the Bud Light of sports and even I don't mind Bud Light if it's cold and brought to me (World Cup). However, if I actually had to go to the concession stand I'd get a micro (NHL/NFL/MLB/NBA) over Bud Light (MLS) every time.

My solution for all the fake injuries:
If you are caught faking a hit or injury, the other player gets to make it REAL!

1) nothing wrong with a tie

I am not a fan of ties at all. Their OT rules aren't bad either. A small change to the scoring for ties, something like hockey, would be nice.

3 points for a win (regulation or OT win)
2 points for winning on PKs after OT
1 point for getting to the PK round

Something along these lines wouldn't be bad.

Also, yellow and red cards are nice. It is basically so people don't do whatever they want without repercussion.

#2 is a problem. I think if you're going down and don't get up you get off the field for at least 5 minutes and give each team 2 extra substitution per game which can only be used to reinsert someone who was removed for injury.

The last descriptor of ANYTHING related to football (soccer) that can be applied is lazy. From the players right down to the fans, they are anything but.

I also fail to see how MLS = Bud Light in your analogy. NFL/NBA/MLB is practically beamed directly into my brain these days and therefore is far more the choice for the "lazy" sports fan. MLS, or anything non-WC football related, is far harder to get any news on. So I think you have that backwards.

Your comparison is completely invalid as MLS is not the premiere soccer league in the world by any stretch of the imagination. But don't let reality get in the way of your ignorant soccer bashing extravaganza.

Make the offsides rule more like hockey. Pick a point on the field and make that the equivalent of the blue line. As it is, pretty much every exciting offensive play in soccer is called offsides. Hence the 5 SOG issue.

one thing I really like about soccer is the lack of annoying commercials and you generally know when it's going to end

Yeah the officiating is beyond awful. The wussificaiton of the sport really hurts it (dramatic flopping/acting when no harsh contact was initiated). I think those are the two big reasons it won't catch on in America. Maybe when they institue harsh penalties for floppers (either during or after the game is played), and also institute replays for big decisions (I think the NFL challenge system works great), you at least have to use replay in the world cup.

I think for it to really catch on in America you'd need the average scores to be at least 3-2, and upwards of 5-4. None of these 1-1, 0-0 games. Doubt that's going to ever change though. They did some modifications to the NHL a few years back so now a lot more goals happen, and the sport is more popular now. All it takes is a few tweaks. I don't see FIFA making those tweaks but the US Soccer leagues certainly could make changes to allow more goals.

I think never, so I guess anything would be sooner than I think...but unless they make it much harder to get a red card (like 5 yellow cards) or they greatly reduce the power of a red card (e.g. 5-minute power play and then the sent-off player can be replaced) OR they institute a "no blood, no foul rule" I do not see this problem being fixed anytime in the foreseeable future...it's been a problem for many years now.

The premier soccer league in the world isn't in the US. Which further validates my point that soccer (MLS) is the Bud Light of American sports.

Bashing? I actually complimented the World Cup as a lite beer that you can enjoy because it's brought to your seat. Keep up.
