60 GB HD at Officemax, $50 plus tax is dead, but 120GB for $100 plus tax is alive

1/5/03 to 1/11/03: Buy a Western Digital 60GB 7200 RPM hard drive, $30 rebate. According to the Officemax flyer, it's $99.99. Add another item to get the total above $100, use the $20 off $100 purchase coupon and it comes to about $50 plus tax and however much the additional item costs.

Later this month:
1/12/03 to 1/18/03: Buy a Western Digital 40GB 7200 RPM hard drive, $30 rebate.
1/19/03 to 1/25/03: Buy a Western Digital 120GB 7200 RPM hard drive, $50 rebate.

It appears that the 60GB HD deal is now restricted to B&M only, making it pretty much dead . But, there will be a $50 rebate on the 120GB hard drive. The HD is item 20148555 and is $179.99. There are coupons available for $30 of $150 or $40 of $200, so the 130GB HD can be had for about $100 plus tax after rebate. Maybe cheaper if Officemax puts it on sale that week.

I doubt it, I've never seen 40 or 60gig 8mb drives in retial packaging, only oem. Chances are slim.

I just checked again, and it looks like they're restricting it to B&M now. "Product (item #20076917) available in retail stores only." I ordered mine online earlier today, but I was just leaving the house, so I didn't get a chance to post it until I returned home. The $50 rebate for the 120GB kicks in the week of 1/19/03 to 1/25/03. At that time, the $30 of $150 or $40 of $200 coupon can be used with the rebate, so the cost will be around $100 for 120GB HD.

Better yet, this week only at CompUSA only: 60 GB ATA133 DiamondMax Plus 9 w/fluid dynamic bearings, 3 year warranty for only $69.99 (NO mail in rebate - you have to print out the unadvertised special on the internet and present that at the counter for the discount). The only downside is that it's the baby of the Plus 9 family with only 2 MB cache. But heck for the price.....

Copperpipe, the fine print in CompUSA's ad claims there's a mail-in rebate form that you get when you purchase the drive. The retail price of $119.99 for 60GB is a bit steep.

There's no rebate on this one. I just bought it. The fine print says savings only. If it says savings and rebate, there is a MIR. Call them up yourself.

i'm tired of rebates, it a trick in the book to make you think you're saving but in actuality it's inflated prices. hold your money then decide whether to give it back or not. you not getting the best deal in town but you're getting conned, why don't just sell it for what's it worth instead of jacking up price then use the rebates as tool...to manipulate our buying choices???...most of these stuff are obsolete anyway or just out date material that should just sell for less without the rebates hassle.

yep...got paid $40 to help move 2 sticks of out of date DDR266 Infineon-7 256MB memory modules(PNY) from OD awhile back and currently appears I'll have paid $3( BestBuy) for an obsolete 16x Liteon 163D DVDRom drive in about 3 weeks

as always YMMV <edit> you are correct on the hold your money scheme..yesterday on the 6th got a rebate (revalidated) moving again for a friend from back in June 2001 for $70 ..not sure where that fits in but $70 back on a $140 item..seems to be a nice thing to get
