American health care system is on for a overhaul for sure... it IS going to be morphed, for better or for worse that only time will tell. All the planned projects in this sector, like the one mentioned in OP will be and should be on hold. These projects were based on the assumption of the current health care model, the new model moved away from the capitalist approach and that forces the investors to rethink their strategies.
One known fact is that America has lost jobs for good. The income has gone down and will keep going down so you cannot expect the lavish hospitals with all the latest and greatest equipments to keep springing up.

First of all, you guys need to learn how Medicare works. I say that because this thread makes it obvious that most don't know.

Medicare is for retirees. Most retirees also have private insurance. (So many posters seem to it's ONLY Medicare for retirees, that Medicare is the only payee) When the average retiree incurs a medical costs it is split between the private insurer and Medicare.

So, what does this mean. It means this new rule isn't about poor vs wealthy patients. Wealthy retirees use Medicare too.

So now, these doctor owned hospitals will lose their retiree patients (or really no more new doctor -owned hospitals). And the elderly/retirees are by far the ones who consume the most medical care.

New doctor-owned hospitals will be limited to seeing us working people who are under the age of retirement, whether paying with private insurance or our own money.

How this benefits our HC system is inexplicable. Nope, it doesn't, it's a political benefit for large corporate hospitals, that's all.

You may have hit upon another underlying reason for this. If an area's publicly owned hospitals are crap, there's a good chance that some physicians will build their own small hospital so as not to practice in a crap hospital. (Can't do right by your patients if they all get MERSA, right?) By denying Medicare payments and thus forcing wealthier patients to pay out of pocket to avoid the crap hospitals, Team Obama is saving that money. Obama is saving Medicare!

Personally I'd love to be in a hospital owned and run by doctors rather than the usual bureaucrats or corporate bean counters. After all, who is going to be less willing to compromise patient care than doctors?
