Math wasn't a strong subject for you was it?
$3999 + $199 = $4198 which is around $4200.
Still a good deal however

I think this may be a legit deal, since Pioneer announced last month that they are stopping to manufacture these excellent LCD panels themselves, and will source them from Panasonic. So BB and others may wanna get rid of their stock, which could result in good prices - only issue is long term support

LG and Phillips supplied some of the mid size components and likewise they bought and used many larger unit components from Pioneer.

Pioneer does not make LCD. Pioneer manufactures the best plasma display panels. Matsushita will be building panels based on Pioneer blueprints. This is no different than Toyota's partnership with GM to build cars, expect to see the same GM quality from a Toyota plant.

That may not be such a bad thing. Panasonic produces in volume, leading to lower Kuro prices, they also have panels that are rated for an astonishing 100,000 hours.Originally posted by: Yo2

You are correct I meant plasma. The point remains though, that they are notmanufacturing them anymore themselves.

Woa, F.U.D. runs amok here ...
Pioneer will still produce their own panels this year for their 9G models. Beginning next year they will get their panels from Matsushita/Panny but all the rest of the display will be their design.

And this is a bit off base too. Fact is, we have had a partnership with Toyota at our old Van Nuys, CA assembly plant, aka NUMMI, for almost 25 years. This is where the Vibe is built, and it is essentially the same as a Matrix. Funny thing, the new Vibe is getting better reviews !
Hell, the entire Buick Division has a better reliability record than Toyota as a whole in 2006, possibly 2007.

Thank you !
Back to the OP topic ... Buy.com is actually still allowing you to place an order for this TV, despite it showing OOS status. I couldn't resist and pulled the trigger on one. Will be interesting to see what happens, re: if they cancel the order.

Keep us posted and remember this is not the elite, though according to AVmag they share the same glass panels as the elite but lack some of the elite's digital logic. Please feel free to correct me.

Yeah, as I noted previously, this is not an Elite model, but based on my experience with my 50" Pioneer, I don't see how they could be that much better. As kki000 noted, the main diff is access to a bunch of settings that only a calibration pro should be messing with in the first place.
kki000 : Did you buy from Roman ?
Perhaps these low prices reflect that the new Pioneer models will soon be released ? I was under the impression though that it would be late this summer before they hit stores.

I think the 9mm Kuro concept is dead now that they are no longer going to produce their own panels after this year. Damn shame ...

Just a few months ago at CES, Pioneer said it was a go. Do you have a link to verify these changes?
