Hello guys, I was searching around for some benchmarks to decide on my GPU upgrade and cant quite decide. I was hoping to get some feedback here.

First of all, these are my specs:

i5 2500k @4.4
20GB DDR2 RAM (4 sticks)
p67 Extreme 4 mobo
750W PSU
2 6850s running in crossfire.

Now, I know my cards are good enough to run pretty much any game out there at 1920x1080, but lately I've been obsessed with 6048x1080 res.

Its really hard to find good benchmark at these resolutions, thats my first problem.

Because of this I cant really get a clear picture.

My second problem is that my budget is ~$500 for 1 card. or ~$1000 for 2.

My third is my PSU. Its a 750W.

Now, this is the situation (lol)

As mentioned I want to run games at 6048x1080, and seeing the benchmark results here: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/539?vs=550
Im inclined to go for a 7970 for now.
I dont really want to spend $1000 yet, so I'm planning to get just a single card for now.
This will also save me the money from upgrading my current PSU.

I imagine that if I go dual 7970 or dual 690, I MUST upgrade to at least 1000W PSU.

Anyway, should I go for 7970 or any other? recommendations?

(I know, I talk too much)

7970 seems the way to go, there are some used GTX 680 4GB cards being sold around the web that would also fit the bill nicely .

I would go for a 7970 at that res, GTX 680s choke when you crank up the resolution.

If you had unlimited funds the way to go would be dual titans.

Yep you'll probably want two 79** for that setup. For a single card the 7970 is a must (especially since you'll have to wait a little for crossfire). Your psu could probably accommodate two at stock, but overclocking might get a little close if you really crank them up. I would get one and see how that does, like you say in your original plan. If you don't mind some settings lowered/off, then it might even be good enough. For a setup like that I would go all out though!

How do you achieve that resolution 6048x1080, are you talking 4 monitors?

That would be 1512x1080 displays... Never seen one of those.

He's probably talking a 5760x1080 triple-head setup and just got the math wrong. (And even if there is a 6048x1080 setup out there, it would have about the same requirements re: GPU power and VRAM as a 5760x1080 rig.)

It's probably bezel corrected 3x1080p, my ASUS screens have about 1/2 inch thick bezels and I typically ran around 5900x1080 corrected.

I have a single GTX 680 4GB FTW+ (EVGA) and it really performs well at 5760x1080. However for newer games ill likely need another and SLI again. For reference, ive put 100+ hours into skyrim with hires texture pack and everything set on highest settings at 5760x1080 with a constant 30-50 FPS.

WOOT! Replies! lol

Thanks for the feedback guys, I was a little busy ^_^;

Anyway, yes, its Bezel corrected.
I don't like the default 5760x1080, makes my gaming experience awkward.

Anyway, I was looking at some 7970s and the one Im more inclined towards is the HIS IceQ X² H797QM3G2M Radeon HD 7970 and the SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100351-6GVXSR Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 6GB

From my understanding 6GB will help me quite a bit at these resolutions, although I don't know if its worth an extra $200...

The ice gets some good reviews and some bad ones... Then again, I've used products with bad reviews who ran flawlessly for me. (Rants are usually user-problems)

Thanks again for feedback.

:::EDIT:::

Oh and for the records, Im going to be playing Final Fantasy XIV mainly on these card(s).

:::EDIT2:::

Oh and btw, if another 7970 is recommended please do!

Another note is that FFXIV is in beta right now, and as of right now the game only supports single cards. The developers promised crossfire to work by release but as mentioned before, getting good FPS on a single card would be win win.

:::EDIT3:::

Trying to decide
