60mm to 80mm adapters

Do they work good?

I have a thermalright SK-6 that uses the clips to mount the 60mm fan, and I have the stock AMD heatsink that uses the screws to mount the 60mm fan.

Question:
I have a 6000 RPM 44 dB 34cfm fan with the SK-6 right now.

If I went to a larger 80mm fan (I'm not sure what my 80mm fan flows but its quiet) on the AMD alum. heatsink, will my CPU temp get worse or better?

Generally, those adapters don't improve your temperatures, but do normally allow you to maintain your temps at a lower sound level. The problem is backpressure from the fan blowing air through a constricting passageway. My recollection is that you can usually use a low volume 80mm fan (<35dB) and get results comparable to a 60mm Delta, but I haven't read up on these adapters in a long time so I could be off a bit here. I do know that higher volume 80mm fans don't do any better than lower volume 80mm fans because backpressure increases as the fan speed and volume increases.

Well I have a 39.8 cfm 80mm Globe Fan with about 30 dBa (rated).

The current T&T I'm using is a 60mm 34 cfm 42 dBA fan. It's not loud like my Delta 8k - LOL - but it is still too loud for my tastes.

If I used an Asaka adapter with the 80mm fan, will my temperatures get worse?

You don't use an adaptor on the SK-6 to mount an 80mm fan on it. You just mount the fan by turning it slightly on the HS so that you have a "star" or "diamond" effect and then clip the corners of the fan with the existing clips. At least that is what I have seen and read. It is fairly commonplace with some SK-6 owners. You can see what I am trying to describe on this page. The picture leaves a bit to be desired but you can get the idea from it.

I have seen/read some posted results that seem to indicate that they were able to maintain or lower their temps with a significant reduction in fan noise. That seems to be the main thrust of this type of installation; noise reduction. I suppose you could get a higher cfm 80mm fan for increased performance but that would (depending upon the fan) seem to defeat the purpose. You can probably find some results just by doing a Google search for "SK-6 and 80mm" or something similar.

I had an 60-92mm adaptor on a gladiator and it did next to nothing... Then I bought a Alpha 8045 and my prolems were over. SK6 is nice too

I also remember a thread on this subject a while back. While it's probably is gone now, I remember very clearly that the mod was worth it, i.e. you got a noise reduction with no negative effects on CPU temps. I would recommend such a mod for two reasons: very easy to do (just rotate the fan a bit) and gives a noticeable noise reduction. Just get a Panaflo or something else that is pretty quiet and you're set.

how about a 60 to 80 fan with 4 LEDs ? led fan
While I think that it sounds like a good thing, it is hard to tell from the crapola pic if it is something that would work. Do you have any links or other info that would explain how they do this?? Interesting concept.
Will it damage the SK-6 clips? or fall out or have any negative effects?
Because I have not done this procedure myself, I cannot truthfully answer that. However, from the looks of what I have seen and the articles I have read, I would say "NO" and "NO". The clips will still just go over (cover) a 25mm ledge (the fan body); they will just do so at a slightly different angle. So, the net effect is no more stress than on a "standard" mount. As to the "fall out or have any negative effects?", I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Will they fall out?? I believe in the article I linked to the author mentioned that the mount was not as secure as he would have liked it. I think he "dabbed" on some solder as a retaining tab. However, I have also read reports from others that felt no need to do more than just rotate the fan and secure the clips. But YES, if for some reason the fan DID come loose, there would be a problem. More than likely you would know it either by sound or by some sort of warning from either your MB monitoring system or a third party app such as MBM5. The increase in temp would not occur so rapidly that either you or your monitoring software could react in time. The only caveat would be if it happened during a time that either you were not there (damned unlikely since it would require some jostling or bumps). So, I really wouldn't worry about it.
Hey, if you want a "live and I just done it" kind of report, hang in there for a couple of weeks. I am going on vacation in two days but when I get back I am going to do this same mod with a low cfm 80mm fan. I'd be more than happy to share it with you. I am going to do that and replace one fan in my PSU to see if I can lower the dBa level around here a bit.
Stay tuned folks.................................
