You've got like a gazillion threads on here, why don't you make one with all your questions in a single thread

As for your question, I'm somewhat qouting jonnyguru here, you get what you pay for. The OCZ isn't a horrible PSU, but the 620hx is of better qaulity. I'd never need such a PSU, but if you'd ask about a similar comparison between lower wattage PSU's, I'd go for qaulity anyday over qauntity. Besides, the 620hx with 50a on the 12v rails is almost as much as anyone could use/need nowadays.

620HX is a slightly better PSU. If those were my two choices for a fresh build, I go for the 620HX.

That said, I'm using the OCZ as I type and I've never had it give me a second of grief.

My questions pop up as I think of them. BTW, thanks for answering my threads.

The reason I ask about the 620HX is because there seems to be a cult following with the 620HX. Granted, it's a good PSU. But when 1 or 2 articles come out and praise it and then a handful of members go out and purchase it, they start recommending it around.

And people love recommending the stuff they own. The fire builds and it becomes a self-fulfiling prophecy.

This is Corsair's first round of PSU in the market and these units haven't even been around 2 years to see how they'll fare for the long term. I'm not dogging them, just saying that at a certain quality point, it's better to go with the better priced item that offers more.

That being said, I have a new 620HX on its way.

Why?

Do you have an article that compares these 2 side by side?

Even though the Corsair hasn't been on the market for very long, they are using Seasonic as the OEM who has been in business for over 30 years, and mfg'ing psu's for over 25 of them. Seasonic not only builds their own branded psu's, they build certain models for PCP&C (Silencers) and Antec (EarthWatts, NeoHE, Trio) as well.

The OCZ is based on the FSP Epsilon, and unfortunately the ripple goes out of ATX spec under heavy loads. The OCZ has a 50A combined 12V load which matches the Corsair. Since the Corsair doesn't have OCP on its rails you get the benefits of a single rail psu without worrying about wasted amps or overloaded rails.

Corsair HX620 vs. GameXstream 700

There's no doubt that the Corsair is the smarter choice, and it comes with a 5 yr. warranty.

True, but they have a 5 year warranty so if they are willing to put that on their units they must fully expect them to last a long time

Plus as John already mentioned, they are Seasonic-built.

If someone suggested a turd, and then a brick of gold, would you question the judgement of those chosing the gold over the turd?

I can understand your position on this, but I think you're over analyzing. Take a look at the two reviews John linked.

The Corsair is better built, with better parts, with a longer warranty and is modular.

And the OCZ GameXStream has? Sorry, but no. OCZ has offered PSU's for more than a couple years, but they switched OEM's. Remember, neither OCZ nor Corsair actually manufacture PSU's.

And the OCZ is not at the same quality point and does not offer more. Point?
