*Offer void for most citizens of US, and is only valid in Washington DC.

I am sure for the companies involved that is true.

I think we are spending all this money to help the terrorist come here... The more we spend the easier it will be to bring them home....

As for the bolded part, why on God's green earth are we including 142 billion dollars for Iraq and Afghanistan when we already have a separate bill on that war? None of this makes any sense.

OK, yeah this seems f'd up?

It's a bit hard to research this stuff because the newspaper articles don't include a reference to the bill's number (at least I couldn't find one).

But I do know the prior bill authorized $94.5 Billion, I don't understnd the additional $142B?

Given this will be revisted in September and the "war" uses about $8 Bil per month none of it makes any sense ATM.

Regarding the "Made in America" provision. Yeah, I'm tired of GWB sending piles of our money abroad, or considering a totalization treaty with Mexico that costs us $ Billions etc.

In general I don't mind military spending so much as many other things. Give the soldiers a pay raise, buy American made weapons if needed - put people here to work etc.

But these bills make no sense to me.

How's this for an idea...instead of approving $100 billion for armor and such..why not send congress an invoice and they'll sign off on it, that way they, and the people know what they're getting for $100 billion?

That makes too much sense. Besides, in Washington D.C., the foxes are guarding the hen-house.

ummm what happend to iraq paying for the war when their oil started to flow? why are we the american people still shelling out billions of bucks on this? Iraq oil sales alone should be more than enough to finance our forces.

Bush has expanded our fed budget by 50%, it makes sense the defense budget keeps pace with the explosion in spending, especially since we are fighting on two fronts.

We spend at least twice as much on social programs as we do on defense.

O RLY?
A list of the largest government social programs to illustrate my point about spending twice as much on social spending vs. defense spending.
Dept Ag. Food stamps, WIC etc = $50 billion
HUD rental assistance and public housing = $25 billion
Medicare = $376 billion
Medicaid = $197 billion
Those programs alone equal the defense budget.

Then add social security, which is a social program, at $625 billion.
Now you are nearly double the defense budget, and that is federal spending alone.

Was that in reference to amount of money we spend on social programs in this country?
We spend at least twice as much on social programs as we do on defense.

Why aren?t you outraged at that?
So you're saying two wrongs make a right?
That would make sense if the left looked at runaway social spending as a ?wrong? but to many of them they look at our social programs and wonder how we can spend even more money on them.

All of you guys attacking me for my point totally missed it.
We have all this ?outrage? at the $646 billion being spent on defense, but no one says a word about the other spending.

Overall government spending, Federal, state and local, was equal to $4.1 trillion in 2006. Defense spending during that year, including the war, was $499 billion.
Two big points to be made from this:
1. Defense spending was only 12% of ALL government spending in this country.
2. GDP for 2006 was $13 trillion, government spending was $4.1 trillion meaning our government spent nearly a third of ALL the money in this country.

There is actually quite a bit of outrage over social spending. The left bitched quite a bit about the Medicare spending bill that went through Congress a couple years ago. I constantly hear the right and libertarians complaining about how much social spending there is.

But really it works both ways, doesn't it? I rarely, if ever, hear the right complain about the ridiculously high amount the government spends on defense even though they never shut up about social spending. For the party that is supposedly fiscally conservative, you'd think they would bitch about both equally, wouldn't you?

And just where is this money going to come from? Nobody lends the US money anymore. The Chinese are the only ones buying bonds now (the Japanese stopped a while ago) apart from the US itself (nice one). And the Chinese are not in a good mood. If this goes on China will soon own the US Navy. Heh.
