64bit/66mhz IDE RAID Controller

im looking for a 64bit/66mhz ide raid controller

what im wondering is who makes the best ones?

i know promise has the fasttrack100 tx2 and tx4, but they are software raid and only support 2 drives in RAID0


i would prefer something hardware based that can have 4 drives all stripped

i have looked at the 3Ware Escalade cards, for example the 7410 has been of interest, but from what i can gather its 64bit/33mhz and i dont know if it will run in my 64bit/66mhz pci slots...

anyone know if 64bit/33mhz cards run fine in 64bit/66mhz pci slots?

what other RAID cards should i look at??

Only 66MHZ cards I've seen are some SCSI Raid, Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel. No IDE.

the promise fasttrack tx2 and tx4 are both 64bit/66mhz... but they arent hardware based raid.

and i belive i need hardware based raid if i want to run more then 2 drives in raid0, or if i want to run raid5

Looks like the Fasttrack TX2000, Fastrack100 TX2 & TX4 are all 66MHz and allow up to 4 drives Raid 0. (I shudder at the thought - lose one drive, lose it all.) It will do 2 drives Raid 1 or 4 drives Raid 0+1.

well.. 3ware cards are mostly 64bit, plus they can handle up to 8 ide drives. They are very impressive. Im not sure if they are 66mhz though. These are even raid 5 cards. What are you looking at using this for? 66mhz 64bit has a LOT of bandwidth.

The fasttrack100 tx2 and tx4 are not 64-bit, they are just 32-bit/66mhz. Look at their site, they don't say anything about them being 64-bit, they just say that they are 66mhz and if you look at the pictures you can see they are not 64-bit just 32-bit. I think if they were 64-bit they would cost at least $100 more. If I am wrong someone correct me.

they are only 66mhz not 66bit, you are correct. Plus they mention 200MB/s which is where the 66mhz comes in.

you may be right about the promise cards not being 64bit

but i think the 200mb/s comes from the fact that its 2 channel ata100... cause 32bit 66mhz has 266mb/s of bandwidth (basically just the normal pci bandwidth of 133mb/s X2)

anyone know where to get a 3ware escalade 7450 or 7850 for a reasonable price?


i have several 30gb IBM 75gxp drives... i would like to run 5 or 6 of them in a raid5
