Yeah...well, the packaging says so, and it *seemed* fast, I don't know how to test it though.

Packaging said "high speed usb" and "up to 40 times faster than USB 1.1" and "usb 2.0"

Also comes with a USB 2.0 extension cable.

I picked one up earlier today as well.
In the circular no mention is made of it being USB2.0, but the stock in the store is USB2.0.
SKU from in-store receipt: 852855110713.
$29.99 less 10.00 IR less 10.00 MIR= 9.99

Widows XP sees it as USB2.0 in a 2.0 port, and warns you that it will operate at slower speeds when you plug it into a USB1.1 port.

Sweeten the deal: use the Omax $10 off $10 on it to make it FAR.

It's USB2. I tested its read and write at about ~4500KB/s. It's faster than all my other USB memory thingies except my Lexar 128MB Jumpdrive, which is 6000+KB/s.

Even for USB 2.0 port, it gives the same message!

even though its "in store" only, you still can find the SKU from your receipt...

a sku is easy to check out which store has it instock.

The receipt shows the UPC code (852855110713 as reported by Zaph). Unless you have access to OD inventory system... the SKU (6-digit item #) is NO LONGER found on "the website" and thusly, you cannot check with stores in your area.

Hmmmm....I pick up the phone, call the store, and ask if they have any of SKU # such-and-such thusly checking with stores in my area even tough the SKU is NO LONGER found on the "website". Works for me.

Research:
I do not get the slow speed warning that you do when i use the device in a true 2.0 port, maybe you are having a hardware or driver conflict of some kind?

Karma Wahoo:
It may be a typo , but the deal is at OfficeMax (OM) not Office Dept (OD).

Thanks zaph. Yes I think I'm having problem with this drive in XP. It works fine in my laptop with 2k. But in XP it keeps giving me this error even when directly connected to a USB 2.0 port in my mobo. Another strange problem is that this drive is "not recognized, and no driver is installed for it by XP" in two of my USB ports. But if I install it in a third port .. it works okay. Considering such a great deal .... I'm definitely holding on to it though!

I also picked this up in Vicksburg, MS. The guy had to get it out of the back and did not know it was on sale and also did not know it had a rebate.

The USB 2.0 extension cable is what really makes this a deal.

The rebate is listed in the paper rebate book as item # 15 on page "E"

Picked up on this yesterday!

Question for you techies????

Are there differences between USB 2 cables and hubs OR are all the wires there and they are interchangable?

Thanks

USB2.0 hubs are definitely NOT the same as USB1.1 hubs. USb 1.1 will run at up to 12Mbps, USB 2.0 up to 480Mbps. Big difference
BUT most USB2.0 devices will run at 1.1 speeds if connected to a older hub, and older 1.1 devices will run at thier normal 1.1 speeds when connected to a 2.0 hub.
Most cables I see for sale nowadays are usb2.0, but you may find that the ones that came packed in with some older USB perhipherals are only 1.1 compliant.

As for a good deal on a USB hub , my local Sam's Club has a mini (2"x4") USB2.0 powered hub for somethink like $19.87. ( sorry no sku, i threw that receipt away)
You may find better prices online, etc but for a grab-it-and-get-out-the-door deal on a USB 2.0 hub its a bargain.
It is running about hald what BB and CC want for a USB2.0 hub.

On a related note Sams also has a 3-pack of USB2.0 cables for $9.97 or close to that, which is hard to beat since BB, CC, OM, OD, Staples, etc use the cables ( Usually USB 1.1) as add-on profit boosters and charge $12.00-$20.00 EACH :Q for them.
