Well we know now how they will bridge the long wait to Zen4 on AM5 Q4 2022.
Production start for V-cache is end this year so too early for Zen4 so this is certainly coming to AM4.
+15% Lisa said is "like an entire architectural generation"

The fact that the 5800x 3D can gain so much from the extra cache highlights the fact of how much the CPU is hampered by having to wait on memory requests, and also how games can be multifactorial in their dependencies for performance. That Microsoft Flight Simulator uplift is nuts!

The reviews also showed the potency of the Golden Cove core when it comes to raw processing power. Games that depend heavily on CPU processing power like Riftbreaker, the Alder Lake based CPUs with fast DDR5 are just much better performers than Zen 3; even after the 3D cache upgrade.

I'd love to see some dedicated report about what games and apps are limited by cache size right now and at what cache size or memory latency/bandwidth that may change.

Even more nuts when you factor in the possibility that even with a very optimistic 30% IPC uplift, Zen 4 may not be able to match the 5800X3D in MSFS, let alone beat it. Higher DDR5 speeds might help narrow the gap or even overcome it.
Can anyone Please with a $10,000 to spend or that know people in very high places at Phoronix/Serve The Home be kind enough and test MS Flight Simulator with Milan-X 1.5 GiB 3D V-Cache? PLEASE...!

Or Factorio, but if you do this you create the impression that it's faster on average than it really is.
That is the Whole Point of having 3D V-Cache on a CPU to exploit games/apps that benefit from it.

And here is the reason for not including them on the first 5800X3D vs 12900K tests..

Hopefully AMD hasn't put themselves into a corner with gaming performance. If 5800X3D is so much better at games it may undermine their upcoming Zen 4 launch. (for gaming)
Zen4 will be the Superior processor at everything not just gaming. You see on some games the 5800X3D matches the 5800X, the 7800X will be 20% just on IPC, you add Speed on top of that and you will see a massive gain in both productivity and in games. Perhaps a tie in Microsoft Simulator and in Factorio? But on everything else it will be the clear choice

IT'S DEAD, DEAD!

Instead of memory speeds (besides larger L2), isn't the real reason the extra ALU in Alder Lake allowing it to do more work?
(I hope Zen 4 will also come with a fifth ALU, right?)
