It just occured to me that "supposedly" the 6600 GT AGP version of the 6600 series should be coming out sometime at the end of this month. Then I suddenly realized that I didn't even know where to get the 6600 GT PCI-E version of the card, since it seems no one carries it. So, could anyone give me a hint as to where to buy this ever so elusive card? Why have we not seen the 6600's in bulk at major retailers like newegg, bestbuy, etc? And has nVidia given any more hints as to when exactly we'll see the AGP version of the card? If it comes out soon enough, I'd be happy cause I'd save a few hundred $$'s by not buying the 6800 GT...

Someone give me a clue!!

Xtreme Gear & GameVE are carrying them for $215.

The AGP versions should be available (sometime) next month.
(but who really knows - ATI and nVidia have really screwed up their launch dates this product cycle - Big Time!)

please note, you may spend $150 less for the 6600GT than the 6800Gt but you are also getting $150 less performance.

I'll be jumping all over a Gainward 6600GT AGP8X the first day it is available. My mind is made up.

I understand this, but it really doesn't look like the 6600 GT is all that outclassed by the 6800 GT, just by the tests run so far. Sure, it can't handle AA (at all...) but I'm the kind of guy who doesn't care about AA. Heck, it beat out the 6800 NU on several tests. Not too shabby! (if only it had 16 pixel pipelines!)

On a German hardware site I read that they have official word from nvidia that the 6600gt AGP will be launched at the end of October so that the first reviews will be in then. But when will it be available? Nobody knows... Could be immediately after launch, could be December...

I wish nVidia would speed things up! I finally ordered the parts to build my system last night, but my GF FX5200 is going to be a MAJOR bottleneck till I up the vid card.

No doubt, but the price is a bitter pill to swallow. I love to game as much as (or more than) the next guy but the price of high end video cards it way too steep for this gamer. I'll take mid range and overclock it every day of the week.

i was one of the ones that was hoping the fx6800gt would be priced under 250 bucks, pushing older FX's under 200, and giving the 6800ultra the 300-400 range
i guess nvidia is catering to atleast 2 highend gaming/enthusiast price ranges, too bad it's getting so expensive($200-$500, unless you want 800x600) to play the latest games with reasonable speeds anymore.

i guess nvidia wants the consumer to front the bill for their upgrades/r&d and their highly aggressive release/time-to-market behaviors over the past 2 to 4 years.
I expect major price drops as the months go by. It'll also be interesting to see what impact "The Resurrection of SLI" will have on the market.

my FX5200 just isn't cutting it.
I ran the new 3DMark05 just because i have always run the new versions just to be awed by the scenes and cutting-edge-appeal.
The first part of the benchmark instantly crippled the vid card at a steady 0FPS (i'm guessing around .5-.8FPS average), which urged me to turn the game off in dissapointment

anything above an FX5700ultra, fx5800xt, fx6xxx (under 220-275 range), ati's 9700-9800, ... etc. are looking like the best options.

I agree Soulkeeper...gaming is becoming more and more expensive. Heck, you can get an Xbox, 4 controllers, and Halo 2 for the same price as upgrading your computer enough to play it at the same detail level, probably even cheaper to go Xbox...

Still, I'll probably go for the 6600 GT when it does come out. After spending most of my funds yesterday on RAM/fans/Arctic Silve 5/birthday present for friend (I'm too nice I guess...), and the rest on my CPU/Mobo a few weeks ago, I don't want to shell out another $350-$400 for a video card. I'm too poor!

Really, the 6600 GT should do what I want it to. As stated, I really don't care about AA, and 1024x748 is fine with me (better than my 640x480 I'm playing most things in right now...)

So yeah, that'll probably be what I do.
