Is this card faster than a 6800 PCIe with 256mb of ram ? I think the clock speed is lower but it has more pipelines.

If you read it on here, it MUST be true !!

Orrr .. not. A 6600GT isn't going to beat a 6800 in the important portions of gaming performance, so unless someone shows us a nice lil bar graph otherwwise, let's keep it in perspective.

6600GT vs 6800 - card specs

Edit: Quick glance at the card stats, with the 6600GT having a sizeable core and memory speed lead over the 6800, but the overall memory bandwidth an easy win for the 6800. Like I said, the important thing to remember is the number of pipes, which gives that bandwidth increase to the 6800, and the 6800s were also not too hard to unlock the disabled pipes.

damn... i've been wanting this 6600gt for some time now ... been waiting for it to be around 100 ...

seems that a % of the buyers are saying it is hot and overheating during game play...
due to the single hs...

should i go for it?

6800 will run a little faster at higher resolutions and the 6600gt will run a little faster at lower resolutions. the 6600gt can overclock more than the 6800. the 6800 agp does NOT have video acceleration. the 6800 PCIe is on a different core where you can't unlock any extra pipes.

i had a 6800agp and currently have a 6600gt pcie (old mobo died and decided to switch to pcie) and i haven't noticed too much of a difference between the two. if there is, i haven't noticed by much.

If you can, just wait until they start running deals on the 6800GS. I'm hoping to get one of them in the next 6 months for $180 or less.
