Here's the story:
I just replaced my ti4200 with a Leadtek 6600GT vid card.
Ever since then I've been running into 2 problem.
1. the computer locks up when playing games - usually after 10-30 minutes
2. the computer boots up with no video driver and I have to reinstall it.
#2 only happens once or twice a week. I have to boot into safemode, install the video driver, reboot and it is fine. It is a waste of time and annoying.
#1 happens just about anytime I play a game for any amount of time, but sometimes I am able to play for 2-3 hours with no problems. I have had no luck determining if this is a heat issue or a defect in the card.
Thing's I've tried:
for #2 - I ran that utility that totally uninstalls nvidia drivers, ran a registry cleaner to delete all nvidia references, rebooted and reinstalled the latest WHQL drivers. I still run into the problme once or twice a week.
for #1 - I removed my side case panel and turned on a small desk fan blowing directly on the vid card and looped a doom 3 timedemo 20 times (took about 20 minutes) no lockup. I just put the side panel back on, rebooted, and started the loop again and it went about 10 minutes and locked up. This leads me to believe it may be a heat issue.
So based on these problems, should I order an RMA or should I order a better VGA cooler like the zalman? I have 3 80MM and 1 120MM Case fans that seem to keep everything else running well.
TIA
