6600GT or 6800..

I'm looking for an upgrade to my 9800Pro which I purchased about a year ago. I'm giving it to my dad for Father's Day, since he really liked the card (I swapped it out and put it in my case, giving him my old GeForce2 ). Of course now, I'll be in the market for a new card.. I haven't been paying much attention to PC technology over the past several months since I upgraded, but now the time comes again to ask for help!

I know I can get the 6600GT for about $150, while the 6800 comes in at near 200. I am just wondering how these two cards stack up, if the price difference makes up for the performance.. yadda yadda. If there's an ATI card you would rather recommend, I'm all for it!

PS - AGP only, don't have a PCI-E mobo.

If you can afford it the 6800 is the way to go.

IMO it's pointless going from a 9800 pro to a 6600GT, you're best going to a x800xl/6800GT to see a real long-term upgrade benefit. If you can wait until the g70 comes out you might be able to get a good deal on a 6800GT that will obliterate both the 6800 and 6600GT...

But certainly the 6800NU will be quite a bit better than the 6600GT, especially at higher res/AA/AF levels...

9800p to 6600gt = NO

9800p to 6800 = NO

9800p to 6800gt for $289 = YES


Either way, to answer your question, I believe the NU is only a few more bucks.

Its pretty much the same as the 6600gt but the NU pulls ahead when aa/af and higher resolutions are applied.

Especially since its pipelines and vertex engines can be unlocked. Review But if you can sell 9800Pro for a bit, $290 6800GT is not out of the equation.
